Annapurna Interactive Employees Resign Together

Annapurna Interactive, one of the biggest indie publishers in the industry, is in crisis. All the staff from the games division have resigned en masse following a dispute with its owner. Here’s all the information.

Annapurna Interactive is one of the largest indie publishers in the world, a company that has brought to the market standout gems such asOuter Wilds, Kentucky Route Zero, Stray, or Neon White, among many other noteworthy games.

The report indicates that Annapurna Interactive’s president, Nathan Gary, and his team had been negotiating with Megan Ellison to spin off the video game division and turn it into an independent publisher. However, the negotiations did not end well, as Ellison withdrew from them, leading Gary and other executives, along with two dozen staff members, to resign, leaving Annapurna Interactive stripped bare.

“All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned,” commented the former director. “This was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make, and we did not take this action lightly.”

Many developers associated with the publisher have begun to have doubts, but it has already been indicated that existing games will remain under the Annapurna label, as well as their funding and promotion.

“Our top priority is to continue supporting our developer and publisher partners during this transition,” Ellison said in a statement to Bloomberg News. “We are committed not only to our current slate of games but also to expanding our presence in the interactive space.”

Héctor Sánchez, the new president, has reassured developers that the company will honor existing contracts to ensure everything remains in place and does not impact creators of games like Bounty Star or We Kill Monsters.

The turmoil continues within the video game industry. Divisions, resignations, and layoffs are plaguing the industry. Recently, we learned of650 new layoffs by Microsoft in its gaming division.

Let’s hope the situation at Annapurna Interactive is resolved and that it does not affect ongoing developments so that games likeCocooncan continue to stand out in the indie market.
