Astro Bot Developers Confirm Game Length
Astro Botreveals the estimated duration of thePS5exclusive game the creative director ofTeam Asobi, Nicolas Doucet, gave more details about the highly anticipated platform game that will arrive on Sony’s console in September of this year.
Following the success ofAstro Bot: Rescue Missionfor PS VR and Astro’s Playroom for PS5, Sony’s lovable robot will now star in his biggest adventure to date.
Team Asobireturns as the studio in charge of development, but this time we’re talking about a complete platform game, moving away from virtual reality and haptic experimentation.
Astro Botwill be a huge game, with more than 150 cameo characters, 80 levels, and a development that has spanned the last three years by a team of about 60 people.
However, its creators have confirmed that the game will NOT be open-world (although it was initially planned to be), and they prioritize pace over game hours.
In an interview with Julien Chièze onYouTube, creative directorNicolas Doucetrevealed the average duration of Astro Bot.
Astro Botalso boasts a plethora of nods and references toPlayStation’spast. For example, we will have to rescue about 300 robots, many of whom will wear outfits/skins of characters like Ratchet or even the Hunter from Bloodborne.
Nicolas Doucet assures that they have prioritized pace and fun over hours of content, discarding the open-world concept they initially planned.
Thus, Astro Bot for PS5 will have an estimated duration of between 12 and 15 hours of gameplay, which is not bad for a 3D platformer for a single player.
“We want to create a game where the pace is constant and each level maintains the same quality instead of having moments that are a bit long.”
The Team Asobi opts for a more constant pace, away from open worlds with hundreds of hours of gameplay. Doucet assures that they never said the duration would be longer.
“It’s a game where you collect many characters… But that was never really the goal. We never said it absolutely had to be 20 to 30 hours of gameplay.”
The good news is thatAstro Bot will be a highly replayable title, both at launch and months later, as Team Asobi is preparing free updates and DLC. Its estimated size is 66 GB onPlayStation 5.
