Astro Bot Is Announced At The State of Play
The rumoredAstro Botwas made official at the latestState of Playwith the first trailer showingPlayStation’s“mascot” in new 3D platforming adventures. After the event, the Japanese developer revealed the first details of a game coming toPlayStation 5on September 6.
The gameplay confirms that the tributes to thePlayStationuniverse will continue after Astro’s Playroom, the game included for free with everyPS5, but this time they will have more prominence – they won’t be just simple easter eggs. “Many of you have asked us for a full Astro game. We’ve listened to your feedback and now Astro is back in a grand space adventure, the biggest one to date,” says Nicolas Doucet, director ofTeam Asobi.
The little robot will explore six galaxies offering more than 80 levels where Astro’s crew can be found. These worlds include forests, volcanic zones, deserts, and of course, fun enemies – more than 70 different ones – dangerous bosses, traps, and more: “Defeating each boss will reveal a wonderful secret, but we don’t want to spoil it for you, so our lips are sealed.”
To overcome these challenges, we will be able to use more than 15 abilities that modify gameplay: “Among the new powers you’ll find Barkster, the Bulldog Booster, with which you can launch into the air and pass through enemies, metal, and glass; the Twin Frog Gloves, which allow you to punch long distances and give you the ability to swing; and the Giant Sponge to absorb water from the environment to become huge and smash (and soak) everything in your path.” There will also be more challenging levels to test your reflexes.
In case there was any doubt, it is confirmed that it will make use of thePlayStation 5controller features that were so praised with Astro’s Playroom. In fact, that game was designed as an introduction for console users to showcase the possibilities of adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, the speaker, microphone, and motion sensor. “Combined with Astro’s improved controls, these new powers take the Astro platforming experience to a new level while remaining accessible to everyone,” Doucet concludes.
In a Q&A published on the official game website, it is clarified that it will not be a free game, as unlike Astro’s Playroom, “Astro Bot is a full-sized standalone adventure that offers four times the worlds, 300 robots to rescue, and dozens of new powers and features to discover.” This is specified in the more than 80 levels and 15 abilities the game will have. However, we still do not know its price and whether it will be released at the standard 79.99 euros of this generation when it goes on sale on September 6.
The Q&A also clarifies that it will be single-player only, will not have multiplayer, will be exclusive to PS5, is a 3D action platformer where we will explore more than 50 different planets, will not have microtransactions, and is developed by the JapaneseTeam ASOBI. As also detailed on the game’s website, we will have to rescue more than 150 bots inspired by legendary characters fromPlayStation’s30-year history.
It will be released in physical format and pre-orders will open on June 7.
