Atomic Heart Heads to ‘The Limbo’ in Next DLC
Atomic Heart’s next DLC will be heading to a new weird world called ‘The Limbo’ coming out this winter.
The second DLC for Atomic Heart is coming out this winter and The Limbo will be even stranger than what was experienced so far. From the looks of the trailer, it’s a mix of a theme park with Mario-esque platforming but in first person.
The world shows swirled meringue-looking clouds, a floating fish island and a number of broken platforms perfect for hopping and jumping over. It’s like the world has suddenly collided with Only Up, except there are glowing apples to collect and other weird oddities. Jumping from platforms doesn’t seem to be your only hindrance to getting to where you’re going, there are rolling giant balls and retracting columns to really up the challenge.
But this platforming, sky-diving nightmare isn’t the only thing teased in the trailer. This will be a story continuation and has the promise of a “new gameplay experience”. This is the second DLC to hit the soviet themed Action-RPG. Previously developer Mundfish released the Annihilation Instinct DLC which uncovered new unexplored areas of Facility 3826. While that region was certainly strange with underwater action, things only seem to be getting even more surreal with the latest peek at the new DLC The Limbo.
In case you missed it Atomic Heart is set in an alternate telling of the history. One where the USSR was successful in creating robots in 1955. However, things don’t go to plan as robots run amok and a new upgrade gets sabotaged upon release making everything go haywire. It’s up to you as an elite soldier to find out what went wrong and also kick some metal butt.
Together with a handy (and we mean handy) Power Glove that unleashed a number of useful abilities including freezing enemies in place and protecting yourself with energy shields. Atomic Heart certainly has an in-your-face sense of humour in its narrative. Together with some frantic, fast-paced gameplay and puzzle solving it’s a strange ride.
Atomic Heartwas released for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series and Xbox One. The second of the four DLCs will drop this winter.
