Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 Arrives Soon but Only on PC
Baldur’s Gate 3will receive Patch 7 very soon, and Larian Studios discussed the details, which for now will only arrive on PC, along with some interesting tidbits from Its development, such as a First-Person Mode for dialogues that was almost scrapped.
Baldur’s Gate 3on PC, Steam Deck, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S continues to please CRPG fans, who will soon receive Patch 7 after its delay. Larian confirms its release and shares some curiosities.
After revealing some details about what they plan to add in what they are already calling the last major update for BG3, and the moment when they will “deliver” the game to fans, the studio confirms it’s planned for next week.
Although this is just a release window, Swen Vincke confirmed it during PAX West to give players some news; but there’s a catch—it’s only arriving on PC for now.
The director of Larian Studios assured that console players of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be able to enjoy the new content in Patch 7 after a series of processes and fine-tuning.
In case you missed it, Patch 7 is coming to PC next week! With so many changes and new features arriving in this patch, it’ll take a little longer to get these to you on console and Mac – but don’t worry, you’ll be murdering your enemies and installing mods in no time.pic.twitter.com/G7DzctYwKk
“We’re going to pay close attention to the modding community that has been helping us with mods that we can officially support,” Vincke said.
It was then that the head of Baldur’s Gate 3 explained that the team’s goal is to make modding compatible across platforms, “which isn’t the easiest thing” since it needs to work on both PC and consoles.
“We’re going to start with the PC version. The console version will come a little later because it has to go through a lot of submission processes.
This also gives us time to see what fails and fix it so that it’s ready in time for consoles,” he said. There is no exact release date for this update, but this panel at PAX also brought us other interesting tidbits.
At PAX West, they were determined to celebrate the first anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3 with various insights into its development, such as the fact that they almost scrapped the cinematics.
“During Early Access, we weren’t sure if cinematics were going to be part of the game or not,” said Alena Dubrovina; the art director mentioned that they almost discarded them.
“We had a few conceptual tests, and we kept wondering: ‘Okay, are we going to do it? Are we not going to do it?’ That’s when we decided to go for it.
We opted to keep the camera quite far from the character, and we were never going to get too close. The next thing we knew, they were zooming in on a goblin’s finger.”
It’s hard to imagine what Baldur’s Gate 3 would have been like without these types of conversations recorded with motion capture, but another option for Larian would have been something in the style of Bethesda.
“There was a moment where we seriously considered doing the dialogues in first-person,” Vincke said after this. “So we tried it. We quickly discarded it.”
The director then mentioned that making Baldur’s Gate 3 cinematic was probably the biggest challenge Larian has ever faced: “And we had no idea what we were doing.
Because we were about 120 people and ended up with 400, all because of the enormous amount of cinematics we had to include in the game. It was a big leap for us, and dealing with it was very, very, very complicated.”
However, they managed to pull it off, and the result is a game that has continued to win awards until recently, something that started to become a problem for Larian Studios.
But the important thing now is that Patch 7 forBaldur’s Gate 3is arriving next week, though only on PC for now.
