Baldur’s Gate 3 Success Stories, Player Counts, Updates, and More!
Almost 2 weeks after BG3’s launch, 4 hotfixes have already been released, mainly addressing many bugs. However, Swen Vincke, CEO and Game Director of the game has recently confirmed a roadmap in the coming weeks.
Just yesterday, Swen shared updates that the community can expect to improve Baldur’s Gate 3. He wrote:
We’re all very enthused by your feedback. It’s very rewarding. Our focus now is fixing any issues you report, but we are listening to suggestions. Current roadmap: a) Hotfix 4, b) Patch 1 (+1000 fixes and tweaks), c) Patch 2. The latter will already incorporate some requests.
Hotfix 4 is already on its way so this likely means that we can probably expect Patch 1 alongside the game’s release on PS5, which is on September 6. It is worth noting that all of the fixes released so far will immediately make their way to the console so players will no longer have to wait. More than these though, we are looking forward to what the “tweaks” entail gameplay and probably dialogue-wise. But we are also super excited to see requests coming into play for Patch 2.
One of the biggest changes that players have been asking for is the ability to change the way their characters look even after Character Creation. Our guess is that this may be done at Camp, same with respeccing. Personally, I wouldn’t trust Withers with my (or Astarion’s) dashing good looks. Or it may be as easy as accessing that particular character’s menu to do so. Either way, we are hoping this will come with a transmog system, considering that there is a lot of eye-catchingequipmentand lovely dyes in BG3!
As mentioned earlier, Larian Studios has been actively speeding up bug-fixing in recent weeks. These include progression issues likeSpell Slotspreventing players who have multiclassed from leveling up, increasing Isobel’sACto improve the balance in combat, as well asMinthara’s reaction should you decide to wipe out all of the Tieflings. These are just some of the hundreds of bugs Larian has already squished in just a few weeks with more to come soon.
On top of the Hotfixes, the 23rd Community Update has been recently released showcasing interesting Baldur’s Gate 3 stats during opening weekend. Who doesn’t like them shiny numbers?! I know we do! For instance, among the12 available classes,Paladinstake the crown in terms of being the top choice by a huge margin at more than 200k followed bySorcerers,Warlocks, and then Rogues.Clerics, however, had the lowest numbers at only 50k+. This may have been attributed to the fact that players have instead chosen to keep Shadowheart along for the ride throughout their playthrough.
Speaking ofcompanions,Galetakes the cake in terms of being chosen as theOrigin Characterto play followed by our girlKarlachand our schemingRogue,Astarion. Everyone’s favorite GithyankiLae’zel, however, didn’t get as much love despite her persistent creche antics. Lae’zel Disapproves.
BG3’s opening weekend has been a huge success with more than 10 million hours played or as Larian claims is equivalent to 1,225 years. Additionally, about 368 players already finished the game during this period alone. This is an amazing feat considering that the estimate to finish BG3 ranges from 70 to 100 hours spread across 3 Acts.
Larian Studios is placing the CRPG genre at the forefront of gaming once again, especially after the success of their previous titles, Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2. WithBaldur’s Gate 3, they are able to unify the community, even those who are new to their line of games and to Dungeons & Dragons.
Just this August 14, the game has hit a new record on Steam with over 875,000 concurrent players with only a few thousand to dethroneHogwarts Legacy! The number is also a huge step up from theinitial 400,000 players, but that was probably because everyone was still downloading the massive game.
In addition to the semi-open world, massive content, and impressive player freedom, BG3 is beginner-friendly because of how gracefully its systems are taught. This has been a considerable update from the Early Access version as various tooltips and UI have already been added and improved upon.
On Metacritic, it has already surpassed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom but do note that it only has 36 Critic Reviews at the moment due to how large the content is. Most reviewers are still probably inCharacter Creation.
Nonetheless, the game is proving to be an impressive and unforgettable experience for anyone willing to dip their feet in the world of Faerun. Be sure to visit theBaldur’s Gate 3 Wikifor more info. The more magically inclined of us should also check out theSpellcasting GuideandCantrip Guide.
