Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden centers around two main Banishers or spirit hunters and lovers,Antea Duarte and Red Mac Raith. Their main goal has always been clear – to travel to New Eden to rid the world of its dangerous curse, solve the crimes from within, and help spirits transition peacefully into the afterlife. However, one day, Antea was unexpectedly killed by a hostile creature, turning her into a wandering ghost.
As Red, you have to make a painful decision of whether to turn your back on Antea or sacrifice another living being or spirit to bring her back. So what’s it going to be? Will you betray New Eden’s people and break your oath or will you remain true to your word and leave Antea behind? There are so many questions and hard choices to make, just like in Life is Strange. It would be interesting to find out how divergent each outcome of the player’s decisions will be.
In Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, what makes these choices more difficult to make is that based on the Love, Death, and Sacrifice trailer, Antea herself keeps asking Red to reconsider the consequences of possibly breaking his oath.It’s certainly not an easy feat, especially since a lot of people will be significantly impacted. It appears that retrieving the souls of the living is the only way for Red to travel to the afterlife and to be with Antea.
Similar to previous DON’T NOD games, players will play as both characters, alternating between them and living in their shoes. As an action RPG, Banishers allows for more freedom when it comes to gameplay because Antea can utilize her supernatural powers while Red specializes in a wide array of weapons like daggers, swords, and long-range shotguns.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has had gameplay overviews in the past months. One of which involves some ofAntea’s abilities as a ghostshe has been hunting for most of her life. Being a supernatural entity has its perks (apparently). It’s through here that she gets to be extremely perceptive and sensitive, allowing her to travel to far-reaching areas in the game. In terms of attacks, Antea is capable of releasing deadly spectral energy to deal massive burst damage.
In a similar vein, Red is also perceptive, having the ability to discern the thoughts of the malevolent forces responsible for the demise of New Eden. With Antea, who can identify enemies as the “Scourge”, they embark on quests to separate the living from the dead and to assist wandering souls.
In one of the earlier gameplay trailers released late last year, we see the Scourge lurking closer than anticipated, resurrecting fallen creatures and instigating a formidable encounter. As mentioned earlier, Red’s expertise lies in swordplay and marksmanship letting him orchestrate a dance of combat with grace and flair. The cool thing though is that players can seamlessly transition to Antea to utilize her monk-like playstyle infused with the power of spiritual energy. Her repertoire of actions includes punches, kicks, and the ability to traverse great distances in a single move!
Banishers: Ghosts of New Edens’ adversaries range from ghosts and ghouls to reanimated wolves and nightmarish entities. Each foe employs distinct strategies to sink their teeth into Red, promising a riveting and unpredictable combat experience. Some creatures are even too resilient to put down and persist even after their corporeal forms are shattered. As such, secondary confrontations are a must to permanently banish them from this realm.
Another part of thetrailerreveals how Red confronts the Scourge in a high-stakes battle that unfolds across multiple phases. The complexity of boss fights like these adds a layer of excitement. Balancing Red’s marksman abilities with Antea’s spectral skills is imperative for emerging victorious against these formidable foes.
