Bioware Teases New Trailer for Next Mass Effect
This year’s N7 Day celebrating the Mass Effect franchise revealed a new teaser for the upcoming next game in the franchise.
N7 Day celebrated the Mass Effect franchise as how you would expect, with another teaser for the upcoming Mass Effect game. The new teaser featured a mysterious character wearing a futuristic-looking trench coat with their face shrouded by the space helmet.
To accompany the teaser, a new blog post by the franchise’s boss Mike Gamble was also shared along with a teaser featuring the mysterious figure that showed up in the short clip. The post marked the 11 years of N7 Days and 16 years of the Mass Effect franchise. The post talks about what happened to the characters within the franchise and “who really died”. These could be small clues as to what the next entry will cover. However, we’ll have to wait longer for more news.
Hey, everyone,
Every November 7th, we’ve all come together—developers, superfans, regular fans, kinda-fans—to celebrate (and speculate about!) the games, stories, and community that make Mass Effect so special. It’s a testament to the long-lasting appeal of this universe and the characters who call it home. Eleven years of N7 Days and sixteen years of Mass Effect later, the franchise continues to inspire our development team, and with each day, gives us the opportunity to create more adventures for you to have. Whether it’s one of the many who have been here since the original game’s launch or those recently joining us at BioWare, we are all incredibly lucky to be envisioning this future.
That process is equal parts rewarding and challenging. We’ve asked ourselves many of the same questions you’ve asked us over the years! What happened to everyone you know and love in the games? Who really died? Who had kids with whom? What does a baby volus sound like? What about all the galaxies? The endings! What the heck is going on with our asari scientist-turned-Shadowbroker? What about S— nevermind…you get the idea. And of course, to those questions, there are answers, but you’ll have to wait to hear them. And anything we do say won’t be easy to find, just like you’ve come to expect from our #N7Day teases.
But for real… thank you. Thank you for everything, and allowing us to do what we do. We approach the future of this universe with gratitude and deep respect. Respect for you—the community. Respect for the love and dedication you’ve given to us. Respect for the history and the stories you’ve created, and the characters you’ve fallen in love with. And, respect for the future, and the opportunity to do something big—something amazing—for you.
Until next time…and Happy N7 Day!
If you’re getting a sense of deja vu, this is pretty much what happens each year during the anniversary. Occasionally we’ll get a small snippet of info or a new image giving hints for the next title. This year is no different. Who is the mystery figure in the teaser? Could it be Laria? Or is this someone completely new joining the crew? There’s not a lot to go on.
As for Mass Effect, that’s a little more elusive. Bioware did release a Legendary Edition which contained the first three gamesME,ME2andME3. A revamped version with remasters of the game, with tweaks here and there for ME2 and ME3. ME however got the most love, with a graphics upgrade, combat rebalances and updated control systems. It made it more streamlined to play through the trilogy. If you’re curious about what we thought of theLegendary Edition check out our review.
This seems like they are paving the way for the next title which has been teased to “continue” the saga. The game has yet to gain an official name so is it Mass Effect 4? Or Possibly ME5? If you count Andromeda. Andromeda can be considered as a standalone game, but there are plenty of nods and references to the previous games. It could be called something completely different.
The most we’ve seen are teaser trailers which have shown a snowy region where the characterLiara, who is one of thecompanionsfrom the previous games discovers a lone piece of scrap metal with an N7 on it, the iconic Normandy logo. Other artwork has shown in the 25 Years of Development book which also showed new images for anew Mass Relay and Mud Skipper.
Maybe we’ll get lucky at The Game Awards, with some sort of teaser showing more of the game as this was how the original teaser was announced. But since we haven’t seen much footage yet we could be waiting a while for an actual release date. Or maybe we’ll have to wait for the next N7 celebration to see more, time will tell.
