Blight Survival is a Co-Op Action Horror Roguelite that Features Intense Combat and Stunning Visuals
Blight Survival is a new co-op action roguelite by indie dev Haenir Studio. It features extremely intense third-person combat.
Have you and three other friends ever wanted to don your heavy armor as you traverse around 14th Century Europe? Did you ever brandish your longswords and crossbows with the expectation to find zombies and meatily crush them into oblivion? How about finding hostile humans, and then taking out your frustration on them?
Good news, then as Blight Survival is just the game for you! Coming from indie developer Haenir Studio is this unique and gritty action co-op roguelike.
The stage of Blight Survival is that of an alternate version of 14th-century feudal Europe. Two nations are locked in a bloody conflict, desperate to gain control of the land. As with most wars, it’s those on the frontlines that suffer the greatest.
This no-man’s-land has had the blood of countless soldiers spilled upon its soil. As the battles and skirmishes rage on, a new kind of plague is born. Called the Blight, this new disease causes corpses to rise from their graves (both shallow and not), hungry for even more death.
Due to the amount of dead initially, from the battles, there is a steady supply of bodies that can fuel this new nightmare. The players of Blight Survival are mercenaries of sorts, and have been beckoned by your nation to take up arms and help quell this newfound disease.
Only through combat and cooperation can you hope to make it out alive.
Blight Survival is a four-player action coop roguelite. It is played primarily in the third-person perspective, as players engage in extremely brutal melee combat. The reveal was made just this November and contained just a few seconds shy of 5 minutes of footage.
Developers Haenir Studio do note that all the footage revealed thus far is from pre-alpha. But considering how good it looks, one could be mistaken that this was a product that would be nearing release.
The gameplay revolves around a mix of realism with a small blend of suspension of disbelief. Players and their friends will engage in high-risk-reward melee and ranged combat. Fights up close are quick and tense affairs, with the player needing to expertly time their dodges and strikes. A careful balance must be made between defense and offense in order to survive.
Players will battle both men and zombies in the struggles of Blight Survival.
It also looks like Blight Survival will have some sort of stamina system at play. We can see in a few moments the player character actually gets tired mid-combat. Perhaps this will add another layer of difficulty to fights as it is an additional resource the players must manage.
Blight Survival also features a loot system, as seen at various points of the gameplay reveal. The player can scavenge their felled enemies for any useful resources after each fight. Doing so will reward them with various materials, or even weapons and armor.
While the gameplay footage only had two weapons (well, three if you consider the heater shield used to basically decapitate a zombie in the beginning), namely a short sword and a long bow, the developers plan to add more types. Hopefully, we can get a full arsenal including standard things such as daggers, claymores, and maces. Who knows, maybe Blight Survival will even have some flails or other exotic weapons?
Quick executions and melee strikes won’t be your only tools in combat. It also looks like stealth will be a valid playstyle, at least in some areas. We can see our knight crawling through some swamps in order to avoid enemy soldiers. It must be extremely difficult to pull off considering that they’re fully clad in heavy medieval armor.
Perhaps characters with a lighter armor class would fare better using this route. Nevertheless, our fully armored knight is also able to pull off some stealth executions on some human enemies.
The game will also have tons of different contextual animations, as evident in the trailer. Blight Survival’s official Twitter account also showcases some snippets of their development progress. Specifically, there’s this entertaining animation that shows off the various ways that the player can go through doors and cramped passageways.
There’s no word yet whether Blight Survival will be available on platforms other than the PC. We also have no confirmation yet on a release date or a price point yet. It also isn’t clear if the title will release in Early Access prior to a full launch.

This game looks way too Ubisoft to be enjoyable. The frequency at which the game seemingly wrestles control away from the play to do something cinematic would drive me insane.
