CARDS RPG: The Misty Battlefield Demo Is Playable On Steam Until December 16
Coming off as a delightful surprise last month, C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield was announced in a first-look trailer. Here, we saw glimpses of what the gameplay has to offer. This includes choosing the cards to keep, enhance, and discard, and meeting a colorful cast of characters you can potentially have as your trustworthy companions.
In a world ravaged by a mysterious mist, resulting in chaos and decay, the future is in your hands to put an end to the escalating wars between nations. It all started in the 100 Years’ War involving 17 kingdoms that were embroiled in cold-hard battles when suddenly, a black dragon descended from the skies. Because of its fiery breath, everything was lost. The more intriguing part about this was the dragon.
Digging deep into its origin, the dragon was a chimera created by a power-hungry country known as Fahftania. To create a deadly army of chimeras, they banded with another faction called the Hellmuth Brigade and sacrificed 1,000 of their citizens in the process. Doing so would prevent anyone from ever defeating them and claiming the power for their own.
To make matters worse, a Clausewitz Battalion who goes by the name of Seth Ardon, discovered that Fahftania is already creating more chimeras to conquer more countries. To stop all of this from getting any worse, you march forth to put an end to it all. Do you have what it takes to create a worthy battalion?
C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield, will have you explore the entire continent, which has since been shrouded in mist. This makes it so that there will be surprises at every corner because revealing each section of the map may or may not have enemies out to get you. As you make your way through, you will also gain weapons, armor, and consumables in the form of cards.
Similar to other roguelike deck builders like Slay the Spire andGWENT: Rogue Mage, players are tasked to collect and combine over 50 different types of cards in a bid to defeat the unbeatable Fahftania and Hellmuth Brigade. These are also composed of the character’s skills and abilities. Depending on your party composition and character, you will be able to execute normal melee attacks with a sword and even wield a shield to mitigate the damage you receive. However, no cards unique to the character you will bring along the journey has been revealed just yet.
Additionally, and based on the gameplay footage from the trailer, it seems like players will also have to be mindful of how they position their characters prior to the start of an encounter. This is true to avoid being surrounded by enemies, especially while your army is few and far between at the beginning. The cool thing about the soldiers you end up recruiting is that every one of them is fully-voiced so you can further enjoy the story and events as they unfold before your very eyes.
To make things more interesting, every encounter is strategically different from the other so you can experience something new all the time. But, mum’s the word on the possibility of several difficulty modes. It would be amazing though, if we have the option to scale up the challenge the further we progress into the game.
Of course, C.A.R.D.S. RPG is still in the early stages and after the demo, feedback will be provided by the players. Hopefully, we will see a more exciting list in the coming months, similar to how GWENT manages to tweak and balance their cards based on different factions.
