Cyberpunk 2077 Clarifies What’s Free and What’s Not in Phantom Liberty
Cyberpunk 2077 sends out an infographic on what to expect between the Phantom Liberty DLC and the highly-anticipated Update 2.0.
Wake up, chooms! It’s time to party! The official Cyberpunk 2077 has been drip-feeding eager fans with teases of what’s to come. The hot and onlyDLCfor the game,Phantom Liberty, is going full steam ahead towards its September 26 launch.
However, the expansion will also come alongside the highly-anticipated Update 2.0, which seems to be touted as the second coming of the game. Will it truly fix the issues that’s plagued Night City? Or are we destined to be stuck with a handsome Keanu in our heads?
Update 2.0 for Cyberpunk is going to be free for all players on all platforms. However as the team has already pulled out resources from last-gen consoles, both the major overhaul and the DLC seem to only be available on the PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5. But what exactly is included?
We will get the usual bug fixes and updates, as well as UI and UX enhancements. There will also be minor changes to existing items and the crafting system, and some new songs to jam out to while on the road. This is just the tip of the iceberg for Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, though.
Arguably the largest and most impactful change is the completely redesignedskillandperk trees. There are a lot of melee-focused new perks, such as Opportunist which lets our character find an opening to behead an enemy. We can also use Bullet Deflect to show off our samurai skills first-hand. Feeling a bit angry? Characters will get a lot of different Finisher options to execute enemies. Savage Sling is one such move, and it allows us to violently throw a foe at another enemy, presumably killing both of them in the process.
Air Dash is another interesting perk to play around with. It will essentially allow us to slow down time while jumping from great lengths, then let us leap in a direction of our choosing. Being the skilled gunman that we are, we can also aim down the sights and fill an enemy with lead. Lastly, Pull also gives us the option to shoot grenades mid-air, causing them to explode prematurely.
Some eagle-eyed fans may also have noticed that there are perk icons of David, Lucy, and Rebecca from the Cyberpunk: Edgerunner anime tie-in.
Cyberware and Cyberpsychosis are big things in Cyberpunk 2077 lore. Humanity has complete choice over their bodies, from shape to size, to features. However, go too far and augment yourself too much and you begin to lose what actually makes you human, hence the psychosis. Coming in Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.0, there will be revamps to the Cyberware system as it will be introducing a capacity system to add more flexibility. And perhaps even a bit of risk.
Night City’s police force also left something to be desired, especially in the game’s earlier days. The city’s finest would often teleport behind our character, seemingly out of nowhere despite us being in the middle of a rooftop or a secluded area. That was changed in some of the updates but will be getting more overhauls in Update 2.0.
CDProjekt has rebuilt the entire police system to ensure that crimes are punished and cyberpsychos are flatlined. They are introducing a GTA-styled wanted system called “Heat” which runs from 0 stars (not a threat) to 5 stars (you are a cataclysmic event). Players who max out their Heat will be challenged by a Max Tac miniboss. Oh, and the police will chase you down, and even open fire on you while in a vehicle.
The last update is vehicle combat. V can choose to shoot out of their car or use their Netrunner skills to blow up enemy vehicles (or cause them to stop abruptly, causing a major traffic jam). Some cars also look to have guns mounted on them, making things a bit more interesting.
So, that’s almost all of the free stuff out of the way. Let’s go mosey over to Dogtown, the brand-new district that we will be exploring. Here we will be on an action-filled spy thriller with Idris Elba as we try to take on corporate espionage and maybe a mission to save the president.
There isn’t any word on how long this new campaign will be, but we do know that this will add tons of new stories, quests, and side missions. And the level cap will also be increased from 50 to 60. Perhaps to get ready for the next section.
Players will be able to tap into their inner relic for the first time. It used to be only useful to have Johnny Silverhand talking in our head but come Phantom Liberty, the relic will have a lot of combat applications as well. Introducing the Relic skill tree, which will have 10 different perks to invest in.
One perk is called Launch Capacity Override. It looks like this will increase the number of available shots in any wrist-mountedweaponrywe haveequipped. Spatial Mapping is a mantis-blade-focused skill that will launch us toward an enemy, instantly beheading them. The final previewed perk is Limited Removal, which probably refers to the new Cyberware Limits that are being imposed on us via Update 2.0.
Of course, any expansion worth a grain of salt would have tons of new items and things to play with, and Phantom Liberty is no different. The expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 will include tons of new vehicles, from stylish, to classic, and even heavily armored (perfect for the new car chase sequences). CDProjekt claims there are over a hundred new toys, split between weapons, cyberware, vehicles, and fashion items.
To keep things even more interesting, CDProjekt is also adding in some new vehicle-basedmissionsas well as “endless dynamic events”. Hopefully, it to keep the world feeling fresh and alive.
