Cyberpunk 2077 Drops Phantom Liberty Trailer Plus Update 2.0 Release Date

Cyberpunk 2077 gets tons of news in the latest Night City Wire, including Phantom Liberty and Update 2.0’s release date.

Yesterday’s Night City Wire was filled to the brim with exciting news for the cyberpunk action RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. We get a full cinematic trailer that introduces us to our new deadly ally, Idris Elba’s Solomon Reed in the upcomingPhantom Liberty.

CDProjekt Red also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077’supdate 2.0will be dropping on September 21st. The patch is so huge with so many sweeping changes that the developers recommend starting a new game when diving in. And apparently, the expansion is “Too Hot to Handle” according to some eager devs.

Idris Elba’s Solomon Reed looks to be quite the enigmatic new companion. This is fitting, especially due toPhantom Liberty’s spy thriller theme. We didn’t know too much about him, until now. It looks like the grizzled veteran wants to hang up his shoes now and leave the spy life behind him.

Reed stylishly jumps onto a moving train and instantly tries to blend in with the rest of the passengers. He talks about the old days until something sets him off. We get to see some action ensue, and a bit of betrayal for good measure.

After a glorious struggle, Reed is ultimately put down by his assailants and seemingly left for dead. However, we do know that this is not the case, as the trailer cuts to 7 years into the future as the President of the New United States of America’s space ship is shot down out of orbit. This is the exact setup for Phantom Liberty, so we do know that Reed survived his encounter in some capacity.

In a surprising turn of events, CDProjekt Red themselves have released a full Build Planner for Cyberpunk 2077. In anticipation of Update 2.0, the team has detailed all of the incomingPerksthat players will get to experiment with come September 21st. The developers also shared three of their favoritebuilds, lovingly nicknamed the “Bullet-Time Ninja”, the “Hack-&-Slash Netrunner”, and the “Savage Slugger Solo”.

Just like before, players will need to invest in the relevantAttributein order to unlock perk access. Each attribute will still only have a maximum of 20. We’ll take a look at some of the more interesting perk additions now.

First up isBody, and this perk tree focuses on BluntWeapons, crashing into cars, and Adrenaline, among other things. The “Fury Road” perk further solidifies CDProjekt’s lean into turning Cyberpunk 2077 into a futuristic version of Mad Max. This perk makes it so that crashing your vehicle into enemies’ cars will deal more damage while preserving the precious paint job on your own. It also has the nice added bonus of making you immune to car collision damage. Talk about effective seat belts.

We also get to seeEdgerunnersfavoriteRebeccarepresented in a Perk on the bottom of the Body tree. Her “Die, Die, Die” perk makes it so that you fire your guns faster the more tired you are. “Spontaneous Obliteration” gives you bonus damage and lesser recoil, but also makes it so that you sometimes Obliterate enemies by executing them in a grisly manner.

TheReflexestree is all about movement, katanas, and attacking really fast. “Stuntjock” unlocks some extremely stylish (and quite deadly) ways to exit any vehicle. V can now jump out of their car and get some airtime. Paired with Air Kerenzikov later down the perk tree will let you unleash a rain of bullets onto your foes.

While the Relic Perk Tree is exclusively available to Phantom Liberty owners, it is still worth mentioning here. The backstory is that newcomer Songbird unlocks the potential in the bit of hardware in our heads. She removes all of the unnecessary clutter, giving us more control over it.

“Jailbreak” unlocks a ton of new moves for our various offensive cyberware. Specifically, theMonowire,Mantis Blades, andGorilla Armsget some new moves and finishers. You also get more missiles coming out of yourProjectile Launch System. Perks later on down this road only enhance specific body parts, so they’re only worth investing in if you use the relevant part.

The other noteworthy perks here include “Emergency Cloaking” which enhances your invisibility and “Vulnerability Analytics” which shows you enemy weak spots.
