Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Could Gain Multiplayer Feature

Developer CD Projekt Red are “considering” adding multiplayer to the next Cyberpunk 2077 game according to a recent interview.

Once upon a time Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to gain multiplayer as a feature but the idea was scrapped in order to focus on improving the game’s performance and to focus on the expansionPhantom Liberty. Now, the developer CD Projekt Red are thinking about adding multiplayer features for the sequel.

In an interview with CDPR CEO Adam Badowski and the media outlet Reuters, they talked about the possibility of adding multiplayer to the sequel. While they didn’t discuss it in detail, they did say that they are “considering” adding it in the next entry.

Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel is still early on in the development process, currently in the “conceptual phase” says Badowski. This means plans could change and whether or not we’ll see multiplayer aspect in the next game is still not certain. It will be interesting if the game will have a dedicated multiplayer, certain quests or full on multiplayer experience. Exploring the Night City with a friend would really change up the gameplay.

It was in October when the developer confirmed that 330 developers are currently working on the new Witcher titled codenamed Polaris, with roughly 400 people expected to work on the title by “middle of the year” according to Badowski. The production phase for Polaris has not yet started according to Reuters but they aim for it to begin sometime this year.

CD Projekt Red’s next Witcher game is still a ways off, and the sequel for Cyberpunk 2077 seems even further. The Molasses Flood studio under CDPR are working on a multiplayer Witcher spin-off, as the Witcher 1 remake is under Fool’s Theory.

Cyberpunk 2077 had a massive resurgence with the arrival of the Phantom Liberty expansion selling over5 million copies last year, which also arrived alongside update 2.0 which had some major overhauls. Hopefully with what they have learnt from CP2077’s launch, the scope of the next game and performance lives up to the 2.0 version.
