Dark Souls 2: Parrying Guide

Dark Souls 2: Parrying Guide

Here is my guide for parrying in Dark Souls 2 PvP.

In this guide I go through how to parry large variety of running attacks and rolling attacks with different parrying tools. In the end there is also a small section about setup parrying and I try to sum up everything I’ve learned about my time with parrying.

Hopefully some of you find this guide helpful 🙂

Great video. Kiitos!

i dont think the Watcher Shield works like a small shield. although i may be doing something wrong with my parries as im applying the rolling attack logic to everything. when they swipe at me i hit parry a little bit before when i think that the swing is coming and that has failed me every single time. however i have better luck using it like a regular shield but even then im not getting it off consistently. what is it that im missing?

just found your video, and as a caestus user, I am so greatful to you for your research and informative video. Instant subscriber.

I’m gonna bump this because this deserves a sticky. lets make it so the FextraLife are the best and most well informed players.

Thank you Juutus.

You are right. It is completely possible that different small shield could vary in active frames/speed but since I didn’t notice any heavy difference, I didn’t run any testing for it :/

Yay Juutas. The running/rolling sections where good.

But I believe you missed some possible differences between Small Shields and Parrying Shields specifically (Like target/buckler) As from my experience Parrying shields are more like the parrying dagger, with the active frames starting sooner

Someone give this man a cookie.

The video is great however I got disappointed on how the setup parry ended. There was almost no information given in this part other than trying to parry a 3rd hit which almost never happens in PvP. I was expecting alot of situations on how you can setup a parry but what you actually showed is almost the same as the previous clips.

hmm… seems ive been using my Watchers Shield wrong this whole time. ive been using it as a medium shield. its still parried about 75% of the time id try to do so but maybe i can get that up to 99% now. thanks a lot
