Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.
Easy: So they don’t have to make any other characters or go into NG+8 just to try something new. Plus, some things just don’t work at lower levels anywhere near as well as they do at crazy high levels like that. Then there’s the part where you can do basically anything without needing to worry too much about viability.
It’s the “fuck this, I’ll do what I want” level range.
Why would anybody continue playing the same toon past sl150 is beyond me but good for those who can see a reason
Well good to see they expanded matchmaking for the very upper level range.
They must of noticed how quickly the game is dying compared to previous titles.
There is a good reason for that, and it has little to do with matchmaking. DS3 is a great game but it’s too much of the same old thing. If it wasn’t for the last DLC, which I really enjoyed, I wouldn’t of played since last autumn. Meaning my playtime was maybe 4 months at that point, since I had taken a few breaks in that time which probably added up to a couple months. My full playtime with last DLc added in is maybe 5 months. I actually put more time into DS2 than in 3. And I had more in DeS than 2. Of course, the most was DS1 which I played pretty regularly on and off for 3 years.
It’s more an issue of playing the same game for so long. Thats why I stopped playing MMOs. And Souls are just starting to feel like large expansion packs to an old game rather than a new game with each release.
tbh unless they chuck out the invasion switch i’m probably not coming back.Might do duels in the undead arena from time to time though.
Huh. Yeah, that kind of solves a series-long problem with the matchmaking, where higher level players didn’t have anyone to play with.
SL351, though? At SL271 you can already put 40 in all stats, including Luck. SL321 lets you have 50vig, 60int, and 60fth. I guess you could probably bring Str to 50 for the one hammer and shield that use it for SL331, and then 50dex for SL341 because why not I guess. But where are you going to put the other ten levels? Bring Luck to 50? IIRC that’s supposed to be the bleed/poison status softcap, but…
Well, whatever. It’s still an improvement. All the overleveled do-everything people get to play together instead of having virtually nobody because level matching. That’s a good thing.
