Dark Souls Backwards Compatible on Xbox One & Season Pass

Microsoft confirmed today a leaked rumor that the original Dark Souls will be available to play on the Xbox One via the backwards compatibility feature. They did not confirm a date that the game would be available for Xbox One owners, nor was it specified whether it will be the base game or if it will include the impressiveArtorias of the Abyss expansion.

Furthermore, Xbox One players preparing to brave the land of Lothric in Dark Souls 3 will find that preordering the game through their console will earn a copy of the original Dark Souls as a pre-order bonus for a limited time. This is a great opportunity to travel to where the series started, giving new players a taste of what to expect and the seasoned vets a journey into nostalgia.

As of yet unconfirmed is the Season Pass spotted on the Honk Kong Xbox store, which mentioned the existence of 2DLCpacks featuring newweapons, bosses, locations, armorand more. 2 fully fledged DLCs on top of what is likely to be an already expansive base game means players will have a long stretch of souls content to go through. The series has a hallmark of long term viability so for those hoping to be able to play the game for the better part of a year or beyond, this certainly seems like good news. There is no word how the Season Pass will function, whether as a stand alone purchase or as something bundled in a special edition but as soon as we know more, we’ll be sure to update you.

UPDATE: With the listing for the PS4 Pre-Order now live, it also lists the Season Pass, so we can more or less consider it confirmed at this point.

well, if i already owned a PS4, getting both Demon’s and Dark Souls would be enough to sell me on just buying a PS3, even if i would have to buy copies of both games.

i suppose whether or not you’d play new things on the XBox is is what’d make or break one’s decision (i definitely wouldn’t).

it does suck, but considering PS4 is outselling XB1 in spite of not being backward compatible at all, i say fat chance it’ll ever happen.

Sucks that the PS4 is still not backwards.

Ugh it’s not a rumourlol. My brother just sent me the link. I’ll see if I can pull it up and add to the thread.

Never played dark souls I but have ps4. As mentioned above its also one of the very few reasons I’d like an Xbox one now (hence the ugh at the start lol).

Reason it’s on just the Xbox is its being released due to backwards compatibility. It will be the original Xbox 360 version (unlike DKS II that was remastered for current gen with SOTFS)

if this is true, i think this is legitimately the first time i’ve ever been jealous of a xbox owners.
