Darkest Dungeon II The Binding Blade DLC Released Alongside Balance Patch
In The Binding Blade, players will be able to go against a new roaming mini-boss and play 2 new heroes. The mini-boss called The Warlord is someone you will meet as you head over to the Mountain. But that is not all since “new military barricades” will be there to bid you a dangerous and cold welcome. Sounds sinister yet fun, right?
Adding to the already 12 availableclasses, you will be able to play the Duelist and Crusader to form an interesting party as you make your way through a treacherous and roguelike journey in your trusty rusty stagecoach.
First up is Sahar the Duelist, a total newcomer to the series. As the name suggests, the Duelist can specialize in 2 forms of play styles, particularly the defensive and aggressive stances. Doing so allows her to circumvent the target’s armor or defensive stats while dealing damage and buffing the party.
Sahar’s strengths include her impeccable mobility, which allows her to move from one position to the next easily, consistent damage regardless of where she is located, and her ability to use riposte. Riposte is very useful and because of her defensive stance, she can execute effective counterattacks upon getting hit.
On the other hand, choosing Sahar becomes a double-edged sword because you will need to gain proficiency in her skills to utilize her well in combat. Despite her defensive stance, she is actually a glass cannon if you cannot get her Riposte and evading abilities to work properly so she needs to be constantly on the move. In connection with this weakness is the possibility of Sahar receiving status effects. It would adversely affect the encounter because she has low HP and so getting inflicted by these makes it challenging to bounce back.
Second, is Reynauld the Crusader, who makes his return from Darkest Dungeon I! According to Chris Bourassa who is the Red Hook Studios Creative Director, “The continued support for the Crusader from our community got us excited to bring this fan-favorite back. His updated design looks great, his skills are impactful, and his specialization paths provide a ton of strategic variety. But we wanted to go the extra mile and honor his status amongst our players, so we created a unique in-game experience to celebrate his addition to the roster”.
Reynauld’s main strengths include being an excellent support class who can heal allies. He is a front-liner character who can withstand taking huge damage, much like his tank capability back in Darkest Dungeon I. But the cool thing about Reynauld is his inherent flexibility. This means that he can position himself at the front or the back of the pack and still utilize his skills. And lastly, he can deal a decent amount of burning damage over time.
In terms of weaknesses, and because Reynauld is a support hero, he does not fare well at dealing burst damage so you cannot rely on him to purely carry the party. What’s more, is that players will need to be critical of the abilities to equip since he has very limited skill slots. Unlike Sahar, unlocking Reynauld will involve completing a certain quest. Finally, there is a new perk called the Warrior of Light about playing as this character.
Additionally, there are some hero balance implementations such as for the Highwayman and Man-at-Arms. The Highwayman’s “Take Aim+ no longer grants a Speed token” while the Man-at-Arms’ crush and rampart damage stats have been reduced as these are found to be too strong. For more information on the rest of the updates, you may visit Darkest Dungeon II’s Steam page.
Darkest Dungeon II The Binding Blade DLC is available on Steam and Epic Game Store for USD 9.99. What’s more, is that the base game is currently on a 25% discount so buying the entire bundle, especially if you’re a fan of Darkest Dungeon I is going to be a real steal!
