Destiny 2 News: Characters Carry Over, Gear and Progression Do Not

In apostoutlining the road ahead forDestiny, Bungie addressed some questions players had about the upcoming sequel, known thus far asDestiny 2which is on track to release this fall. Specifically they announced that characters will carry over, but not their gear or power.

Specifically, theclass, race, gender, face, hair, and marking selections for all characters that have achieved Level 20 and completed the Black Garden story mission will carry forward. We also plan to award those veteran accounts with honors that reflect your Destiny 1 accomplishments.

Noted omissions from there are your gear likeweaponsandarmorand progression. All of what carries over and what doesn’t is an attempt by Bungie to compromise and honor the first game while also providing a clean slate for the sequel’s new systems.

Also in the post, Bungie announced they would be doing an Age of Triumph event at the end of March and would be revealing more about it through a series of livestreams beginning next week.

Thoughts on the news? Is this a good compromise for players attached to their characters? Let us know what you think!

Emergence

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.

This was my biggest issue with Destiny. The lore and world setting were compelling, but to learn anything you had to go online, out of game, to get little snippets of story. As a result, the game became very boring, very quickly.

I liked doing the nightfall strikes and raids, for a time. The only one that was actually difficult was Vaults of Glass, and really only in the advanced difficulty. They need an actual end game plan in Destiny 2. Sparrow races and Iron Banner are great, but when that’s all there is to do, besides run yet another strike you’ve done 900 times this week?

Well that is good to know. I think the biggest concern was the fact people didn’t know if characters were going to transfer. I can live with loosing everything else but my character? Yeah was a bit annoyed if that wasn’t going to happen. Sure kind of bum that exotics that I’ve collected probably will be gone but if the game is better then I can live with loosing everything and starting from scratch. But they need to really impress me to get me hyped for Destiny 2. There is potential to the universe with its lore but they need to prove that they can do a story that is enthralling without the player having to go away from the game to learn it. That and to try and make the missions less repetitive.
