Diablo IV Beta Biggest in Franchise History, Unleashes Hellish Stats

The Diablo IV beta was one of the biggest in the game franchise’s history. To celebrate, Blizzard revealed some stats on the test period.

While the massiveFractured Peaksarea from the Diablo IV beta may have been closed off, there have been tons of fond memories formed on the icy tundra. We’ve had massive enjoyment running around the game’sexpansive locations, and discovering hiddenAltars of Lilith, and other treasures.

The game’s extreme flexibility also gave us the opportunity to play with a lot offun buildsfor the differentclasses. We got to try bleeding our foes dry with aRend Barbarianor poisoning them with rabies as aToxic Werewolf. Alternatively,Necromancersgot to play withCorpse Explosionsyet again.

We may no longer be able to reenter Sanctuary for now, but we only need to wait a bit over two weeks to return. Thetwo beta weekendswere some of the franchise’s biggest ever. We achieved a staggering total of just over 61 million hours played collectively by the heroes of Sanctuary. Blizzard shared a few other stats in celebration.

Fans of the Diablo series played a total of 61,560,437 hours. They were able to explore the entirety of the game’s Prologue and Act I, which took place in theFractured Peaks. While theBarbarianandDruid‘s quests were just out of reach (having objectives situated in the Dry Steppes), there was still aton to discover. Collectively, 2.6 million accounts earned aBetaWolf Backpack cosmetic that will unlock in the full game.

Among these millions of hours, theSorcererandNecromancertook the top spots as the most played classes. The latter is even more surprising, considering that it wasn’t even available during the first beta weekend. That class is truly a fan favorite.

In terms of slaying, the heroes of Sanctuary were able to collectively destroy 29 trillionminions of hell. They were quite hardy to keep hell at bay, though almost 47 million players met their untimely demises in the process. About 1/5 of these were killed byAshavathe game’s onlyworld boss. Talk about extreme. In turn, just a bit over 100,000 world bosses were put back into the ground.

One of the bigger surprises that sneaked into the Diablo IV beta was the fact thatThe Butcherexisted in-game. The massive behemoth was an optionalbossthat could potentially spawn in any dungeon, at any point in the area.

Since most players didn’t expect to face off against such a terror, they were mostly unprepared. The boss was able to slay 1.7 million players. In contrast, only 570,000 Butcher bosses were butchered.

The Butcher has been in almost every Diablo game, save for Diablo II. He has gone through many different visual alterations, but he is consistently a brutish, muscular figure with an equally brutal meat cleaver. In Diablo IV, he dropped theUnique Itemhis signature “The Butcher’s Cleaver“.

Be sure to hop over to theDiablo IV Wikifor more info on the game. We also have aninteractive mapof the Fractured Peaks that details all of the points of interest as of the Beta. We also have more builds, like theHydra Control SorcererandShadow Sniper Rogue.
