Diablo IV Burning Questions Answered in Twitter AMA Plus Terrifying New Trailer
Diablo IV gets an unexpected live-action trailer, plus some questions answered in a Twitter AMA.
Two bits of Diablo IV-related news have dropped in the past few hours. The first of which is a short Twitter AMA that had a live panel. It consisted of Rod Fergusson, Adam Fletcher, Joe Shely, and Daniela Rodriguez. They took in a few questions related to the upcomingOpen Beta.
Aside from that, we got a hauntingly good new and unexpected live-action trailer. It was quite short and didn’t have any obvious spoilers but it’s still definitely worth talking about.
The Diablo IV developer team had a quick sit-down on Twitter Spaces yesterday, February 6th. There, they had a small 40-ish minute discussion on some lingering questions certain content creators might have. We already outlinedEverything You Need to Know on the Diablo IV open beta, but there were still some things missing.
First of which is that there is confirmation of both Cross-Play and Cross-Progression. So people on different platforms entirely can decimate Lilith’s minionsonlinedespite console affinities. However, players who want to partake in Diablo IV’s cross-progression will need to own the game on multiple platforms. That is, if you play on both PC and PS5, you will need a license on both systems.
Next up is that you cannot save your betacharacter’s appearanceas a preset. We do know that Diablo IV will be the first in the series that will allowdeep customization features, but you will need to re-do your masterpiece when the full version 1.0 launch happens in June.
We also got the confirmation that co-op text and voice communication channels will both be available in both beta periods. Additionally, the game will not be region-locked, meaning people from the APAC servers can seamlessly group with those from the EU. However, matchmaking will prioritize grouping you up with those geographically closer to you, to give a better experience.
Lastly, everyone who gets into either beta period can freely stream the game. There will be no more NDA or restrictions in sharing your thoughts and opinions moving forward.
While not directly mentioned in the Twitter AMA, we got the acknowledgment in other Q&A sessions that WASD-based movement is currently not implemented yet. The Diablo IV team does acknowledge that some people prefer this control scheme versus the traditional mad left-clicking. Any control options will help accessibility, so they will evaluate this approach later on down the line.
Controllers, on the other hand, will have a feeling that should be quite comparable to the mouse and keyboard. Specifically, there will be a target lock system that will snap onto enemies quite smartly. However, you don’t really need to make use of this feature to excel incombat. If you’re confident enough in your aim, you can sling yourFireboltsandEarthspikeswith glee.
One bit of very unexpected, but totally appreciated, bits of hype piece was a live-action Diablo IV trailer. Creative director John Muller hired various artists, led by Adam Miller, to create gigantic murals that adorned an old church in Cambrai, France.
This was a massive undertaking, as the scale and grandeur of the project is extremely impressive. Muller, along with his artists, adorned the church with hundreds of meters of Baroque-styled art. Dozens of panels and walls were bathed in awe-inspiring art that depicts various heroes of Sanctuary doing battle with Lilith. This was all done over the span of only 30 days.
All five characterClasseswere represented – theBarbarian,Sorcerer,Druid,Necromancer, andRogue.
For those worried about painting demons and battles within a church, don’t fret. The murals were placed inside the Chapelle des Jesuites, a deconsecrated church. Essentially, this means that the grounds are no longer sacred ground, and Blizzard was given explicit permission to put up the art.
In conjunction with the Diablo IV Cathedral, a new Sweepstakes contest is going to be run during thebetaperiod. Players have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to immortalize themselves in the church and have their very own faces painted over their in-game character.
Interested players just need to visit the official Diablo IV Beta Sweepstakes site, and click the “Opt-In” button. However, participation is limited, as only select countries across the globe can partake in this glorious immortalization.
TheDiablo IV Early Open Betawill run from March 17th to 19th, and the full open beta will be on the weekend after, March 24th to 26th. People whopreorderthe game will have access to the first period. The game’s entirePrologue and Act Iwill be available during this time.
