Diablo IV Season of the Malignant Will Have Players Chasing Corrupted Hearts
Diablo IV shines a light on its first piece of seasonal content, the Season of the Malignant.
Get ready for the Season of the Malignant, the firstseasonofDiablo IV. Corruption has taken hold of Sanctuary, and on July 20th at 10 a.m. PDT, a bunch of awesome new stuff will be live.
Let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of the horrifying things to come for Diablo IV.
Something twisted has happened because of Lilith’s plans, and now we have a new threat called Malignant Monsters. These decaying abominations are running wild in Sanctuary, mindlessly attacking anyone they see.
To investigate this mysterious problem, you’ll embark on a new Questline with the help of a former priest named Cormond. He’ll teach you how to capture Malignant Hearts from these creatures and use them to alter your build. It’s important to stop the malignancy before it takes over all of Sanctuary.
Fighting back against the Malignant Monsters will require players to turn their own Hearts against them. You will kill Partly Corrupted enemies and be rewarded with Malignant Hearts. Use the Cage of Binding, which you’ll find during the Season’s Questline, to capture these hearts. But be warned, trying to capture a heart will transform the enemy into a more challenging Fully Corrupted version. Defeat them, and you’ll get a special Malignant Heart that you can put into Infested sockets in your Jewelry. They’ll replace Normal Gems and give you cool new powers.
There are 32 Malignant Hearts split across four categories (or colors), each with unique bonuses. The stronger the Malignant Creatures you encounter, the more powerful their hearts will be. We’ll reveal more about the theme later.
The new Malignant Tunnels will be the perfect place to find Malignant Hearts. These Dungeons are full of tough enemies and can be played over and over again. The Diablo IV developer livestream showed off a sneak peek at one of these tunnels.
While they look like your standard run-of-the-mill dungeon, the difference is that we will be able to face off against a Fully Corrupted Malignant elite at the end. Players can even get to choose the color of the heart of their foe, allowing them to target farm a specific category.
Explore these dark tunnels, find the source of the Malignant Monsters, and if you’re brave enough, take on Varshan the Consumed, the latest Boss battle.
Seasons give Blizzard a chance to introduce new and exciting gameplay mechanics to Sanctuary for a limited time. As each Season require a fresh start, the team can create fun and crazy themes without worrying about balancing them with past or future Seasons. It’s a time to explore and try out new things, so expect there to be dons ofbuild diversityin the coming weeks.
Players need to create a fresh character in order to join in on the Season of the Malignant. Specifically, a new one on the Seasonal Realm. You don’t need to buy anything to play the Seasonal content, but you must have completed the campaign on the Eternal or Seasonal Realm with at least one character.
At the end of the Season, your character and progress will be transferred to the Eternal Realm, along with all the items you’ve collected. You can continue playing with that character in Sanctuary, but certain Season-specific features won’t be available anymore. That is unless Blizzard decides to make some mechanics a permanent fixture in Diablo IV.
As you hunt down Malignant Monsters and uncover the source of corruption, you’ll earn rewards through the Season Journey and Battle Pass. The Season Journey is split into several Chapters with a number of objectives to complete. It is also noteworthy that players do not need to finish all of the objectives per chapter, as they can decide to avoid the activities that they don’t want.
You’ll earn cool rewards like Legendary Aspects, a Mastery Title, and even a Scroll of Amnesia for a free Skill Tree and Paragon Board reset as you complete each Chapter. Players will also earn Favor, which will help them climb the Battle Pass Tiers. Favor is earned by simply playing the game like normal.
The Season of the Malignant Battle Pass has 90 Tiers, which are split between Free and Premium Tiers. Free Tiers give you Smoldering Ashes, which you can use to get Season Blessings for experience, gold, or obol bonuses. If you get the Premium Battle Pass, you’ll get all the Free Tier rewards plus awesome stuff like Awoken Armor Sets, Mount and Mount Armor, Platinum, and more.
Blizzard has been adamantly clear that the premium track will not grant player power in any way. The premium line will be reserved exclusively for cosmetics.
Players that purchased the Digital Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Diablo IV can redeem their Battle Pass for this Season in the Shop. People can decide to skip the Season of the Malignant if they so wish and save the pass for a future Diablo IV season.
So get ready for the Season of the Malignant in Diablo IV. Dive into the corruption, capture Malignant Hearts, and use their power against the forces of evil.
