Divinity Original Sin 2 Kickstarter Update

Fresh off the success ofreaching their initial Kickstarter goal in 12 hours, developer Larian Studios continues its freight train progress through their stretch goals for their upcoming top down RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2 on PC. Now less than 2 weeks into thecampaign, and with almost 3 weeks left, they have raised over $1.3 million USD. With their initial funding goal achieved, the stretch goals offer additional gameplay features to be developed upon hitting the dollar figure. Here are their stretch goals:

3 of the goals are already unlocked and they are hard charging towards hitting a fourth. At this point it’s looking very possible that they will hit that $1.5 million USD goal for the Hall of Echoes feature. Let’s take a look at the stretch goals they’ve already hit in more detail.

Similar to Tactician’s Mode in the original game, Strategist Mode will be a ramped up difficulty setting in which not only will enemies hit harder, but every fight will be redesigned to feature new strategies, enemy numbers, and new enemy skills and tactics that will not be present in the lower difficulty settings. A true badge of honor for the hardcore Divinity fans.

At the campaign’s end, fans will now have the opportunity to vote on the inclusion of a new skill tree in the final game. There will be quite a few to choose from, each with their own unique skill mix. Examples of some of the proposed skill trees are Polymorpher, Trap Master, Bard, Unarmed Combatant, Summoning Master, Juggernaut, Guardian, and Alchemist.

Players can now look forward to seeing a series of race specific skills, abilities, and talents that reflective of each race’s background and strengths. Some cited examples of this are a Wood Elf being able to summon walking trees, a Lizard calling upon the powers of their draconic ancestors, a Dwarf with imperial authority, and a Human pickpocket master.

Undead will now be featured as a playable race complete with origins, giving players the opportunity to tell their stories from a darker perspective.

That’s just the start. There are still 2 more goals left, Pick a Skill Tree II and The Hall of Echoes which will allow players to travel to and from the spirit world and even opt to make their home base there. Additionally, they are exploring the possibilities of a new set of stretch goals to be released when this first batch are all achieved.

Thus far the campaign has been marked by resounding success and exuberance from both the fans and Larian Studios. It’s really becoming a bit of a mushy love affair at this point and a big win for the indie game concept. However, not a studio to be satisfied by success, concerned about their gender demographic imbalance from backers (only 5% female),Larian reached out to the fansto uncover why that was the case. In the blog post, they uncover several possibilities and continue to explore more. While there are no definitive answers as of yet, they continue to research the issue and their sensitivity to a larger social concern is commendable and quite thorough for creators of entertainment content. It’s probably safe to assume we won’t see a Metal Gear Quiet character cameo anytime soon.

We’ll continue to update their progress as they reach new goals and be on the look out for more news as the game moves towards completion. Between this andSword Coast Legends, fans of top down medieval fantasy RPG’s will have plenty of delectable content to keep themselves satisfied for the next year!

UPDATE Shortly after publishing they hit the Pick a Skill Tree II goal. Hope they have their next set of goals prepped soon!

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.

I hope they make it to the dungeon master stretch goal.

As expected their new stretch goals were revealed today:https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/larianstudios/divinity-original-sin-2/posts/1349217

I fully expect them to announce it on console AFTER the first one crushes it’s debut next month.

Maybe that’s on their next set of stretch goals. Here’s hoping! On their dev stream yesterday it looked as they were playing it with controllers.

Looks like they just hit the Skill Tree II goal just this morning. Pretty epic momentum.

Dammit, I was hoping they’d add console versions as stretch goals. Arse

Good to see they met their initial goal and are so close to the max goal. I hope they reach it with those extra skill trees.
