Divinity: Original Sin 2 Reveals D&D Inspired Game Master Mode
In a developer update forDivinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios has unveiled the Game Master Mode that players will able to immerse themselves in with fellow players.
Game Master Mode will let players create stories,NPCs,items, treasure and more and control the entire presentation. The mode is designed to be flexible giving the GM and players the freedom to adapt on the fly and create reactive worlds.
The mode will come with pre-made campaigns as well as a variety of world maps and over 100 locations to choose from when designing your own. You can also upload your own maps and locations by using their Divinity Engine Editor. Once a location is made you can change everything about it from time of day to weather, to music.
You will have access to hundreds ofmonstersand characters from the game or can download player made creations from Steam Workshop. Characters can be given their own unique names and skills, letting you really flesh out your tale. You will also be able to create unique items for players to loot.
Once a game is going, a GM will be able to control any enemy or NPC directly. For narrative, you can add graphics, NPC dialogue and narration and present difficult choices with the game’s Vignette System. You can also make these additions on the fly if you need to react to something unexpected right then and there.
Dice rolls are a thing! Everyone’s favorite kind of skill check is included, letting you give players a chance to roll for success. When it comes to tabletop gaming, this is what it’s all about.
Everything you create can then be shared via Steam Workshop, which should give fans a ton of great content to keep them going long past completing the main game. It is exciting to think about what players are going to come up with, as you can get there is going to be hilarity and great storytelling. If you want a preview of the mode in action, Larian is hosting a livestream today on theirTwitch channelat 4 PM PST.
This is exciting stuff. Game Master modes have been attempted before in games likeSword Coast Legendsbut they’ve always had mixed results. The way Larian is laying this out has us very hopeful!

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.
I’m very excited about this. I think we’ll have some amazingly fun streams. We will need 2 more players, who’s gonna join us?
In practice these are tough, Sword Coast Legends had some high points but missed the complete package, although I think people were expecting full D&D.
For Larian I have confidence that it will work well, mostly because it sticks within their established systems, which are pretty solid.
I hope this works out, it sounds like it could be pretty cool.
