Dragon Age Trespasser: The Ending That Should Have Been
Author’s note: Please be advised of possible spoilers ahead!
With the release ofDragon Age InquisitionTrespasserDLC, fans get new lore and at last, closure they have been wishing and wanting for the past year. The DLC takes place 2 years after the end of Dragon Age Inquisition; as the Inquisitor you are called before the Exalted Council by the Victoria the Divine. The Exalted Council wishes to know what the Inquisitor has planned for the fate of the Inquisition given that the threat ofCorypheusis in the past.
Most of yourcompanionsare reunited with the Inquisitor at the Exalted Council and inform the Inquisitor what they have been up to the past 2 years. This includes all companions you had in the game that survived any choices you made, and there are special romance cutscences dependent on your love interest; you can even propose marriage in a few of them. There are a few cameos from some minor characters in the previous games, one being a hidden easter egg that I won’t spoil here. Depending on the world state you can also hear reference of a certain Warden as well as Hawke. For those who felt they were left hanging, you are offered some closure with a certain companion that left after the main game. Furthermore, you are given a dialogue akin to the one at the end of the Witch Hunt DLC for Dragon Age Origins.
Aside from all the companion content, we also get to learn the truth about the Elven history. The dungeon you explore is an Ancient Elven Library tied to the Fade and Eluvians and takes about 4 to 7 hours to complete dependent on your play style. This satisfying area is very lore intensive and sheds a lot of light on the Elves and their gods. You also discover some lore on the Qunari and their studies on the Eluvians. Afterwards you are able to receive illumination on all the lore you find, touching upon the origin of the Veil and the purpose of Corypheus’ Orb. Once you get your answers it is up to you how you conclude your meeting. Without going into specifics, ultimately you decide on the final fate of the Inquisition.
All in all this DLC appears to be one who’s choices will be reflected in Dragon Age Keep, and it also further hints at where the next Dragon Age game will take place. Fans of the franchise will find the Trespasser is worth purchasing for the story conclusions it offers and how it sets the stage for future installments. If you do, be sure to watch the credits for a particularly amusing narrative.
