Dragon’s Dogma 2 Gameplay Feature Shows off the Tricky Trickster in Action

Dragon’s Dogma 2 introduces the new and unique Trickster vocation, and teases fans with 5 minutes of gameplay.

Capcom has quite a lot brewing in the kitchen for fans of action RPGs. Between Dragon’s Dogma 2 andMonster Hunter Wilds, followers of the developer/publisher have several things to look forward to. Today we take a look at one of the more unique vocations that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be introducing: the Trickster

Vocationsin Dragon’s Dogma 2 will behave similarly to the original. Essentially, a vocation is a character class that theArisenplayercharacteror the Pawns can choose to specialize in. At the moment, there are a total of 9 different vocations, split between Basic and Advanced. Of course, basic vocations include the likes of theArcher,Thief,Mage, andFighter. In contrast, Advanced vocations are theMystic Spearhand,Magick Archer,Sorcerer,Warrior, and the newTricksterwhich was announced a while ago already.

So what’s the Trickster in Dragon’s Dogma 2 all about? This Arisen-exclusive vocation is mostly passive because theirweaponof choice, aCeremonial Censer, barely deals any damage. Instead of hurting enemies, it creates puffs of smoke that make enemies mad at you and draw aggro toward you. Because of course, who would want someone to just puff a bunch of incense straight into your nose? Tricksters can also make bigger patches of smoke with theSuffocating Shroudability.

Spreading your smoke all across the battlefield isn’t the only thing you can do in combat. Tricksters make use of the pent-up aggro in conjunction with their Effigial Incense ability which creates illusory clones of the player, which enemies will draw enemies into attacking those instead of your squishy self.

Aside from conjuring copies of themselves, Tricksters can even create illusory walls and floors. This is another essential piece of the puzzle when using the Trickster in combat. Because enemies are drawn to your illusions, you can create fake floors by a cliffside with an illusion happily taunting enemies. Since the floor you made is not real at all, enemies will foolishly fall to their deaths. Similarly, players can create fake choke points in combat by erecting fake walls that will impedeenemymovement, allowing theirPawnsto rain righteous fire (or arrows) onto them.

Tricksters in Dragon’s Dogma 2 seem to be more support-focused from the onset. They have a powerful spell called Dragon’s Delusion that summons a massive, but fake, Dragon to terrorize even the largest of foes. This again lets Pawns wail on your enemies freely as they cower in fear and try to get their bearings back. Pair this with their Aromatic Resurgence ability, which is essentially an AoE damage buff, you can kill things really quickly with the proper setup.

Another feature that Tricksters have is the Visitant Aura which makes the character meditate while they focus on creating an astral projection of themselves that can explore the battlefield with ease. The Visitant is not bound to any laws of physics and can float around the land unimpeded – provided that the Tricksters themselves aren’t in danger. The intense concentration leaves your physical form vulnerable to all forms of attack, forcing players to carefully set up an ideal situation before they can fully utilize this ability.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 was initially unveiled about10 years after the original game. Since then, it has had a ton ofgameplay showcasesonvarious platforms.
