E3 2017: What Will We See?

Apr. 19, 2017

Every year E3 brings us a ton of brand new reveals and announcements for new games that are coming in the future. With the annual Los Angeles convention less than 2 months away, we can safely start to speculate on what those reveals will be. At this point in the year, if something hasn’t been announced yet, odds are it’s waiting until a hot and smoggy mid June day in California. Other than games we already know exist and have seen evidence of gameplay, what new title or gameplay reveals can we expect? We’re busting out our crystal ball and making some predictions. If you’ve followed us over the years, you’ll know we have a knack for prognostication. Keep in mind, this is coming from our RPG leaning as a site, so don’t be upset that a new Call of Duty is not on here.

As mentioned above, when Dark Souls 3 was complete, From Software revealed that it wasworking on 3 new games, 1 of which was Armored Core. That leaves 2 others. 1 is said to be a game that will please fans of the Souls series and the other is said by studio President Hidetaka Miyazaki to be a game that is unique and will be a different experience. It’s possible that 1 of these 3 (including Armored Core) will be shown at E3 for the first time. If the Souls familiar game isn’t the aforementioned Bloodborne 2, we are looking at a fresh IP (or something crazy like Demon’s Souls 2). The unique game is anyone’s guess at this point. Regardless of what is shown, it would be mildly shocking if 1 of these 3 games wasn’t shown at some point during the big conferences. If if they don’t get shown at E3 book it for a debut at TGS later in the year.

I really don’t know why we keep doing this to ourselves with this game, but in some stroke of masochism, we at Fextralife can’t seem to let this game go. Perhaps it’s the promise of outstanding dungeon combat mechanics that seem to blendDragon’s DogmawithDark Souls. Perhaps it’s the graphics that were so advanced that they still look viable. Or perhaps it’s the Capcom mystique, who in some ways seems able to thrive as a company in spite of itself. Whatever the reason,Deep Downhas been stuck in development hell for the better part of 4 years and what was once a PS3 title, was moved to a PS4 launch title and now is a nowhere title. Hope was given in the form of anew trademark filingin February of this year, which seemed to indicate that the project is still…something? If there is life after death, E3 is the place to give it the shot in the arm it needs with those who have been following the game, as well as expose it to tons of gamers who are completely new to it.

What do you think we’ll see revealed at E3 this year? One of these titles mentioned above or something new and completely out of left field? E3 always surprises us in some way and we can be sure that this year is no different. We’ll be on site at the conferences and in the meeting rooms bringing you all the news and impressions that drop that week so be sure to stick with us!

Emergence

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.

I think I might be right there with you.

If it is, and it’s PS4 exclusive, there will be two things I will do.

  1. Jump for joy and be overcome with excitement and anticipation.

  2. read all the non PS4 From fans rage comments. Game exclusivity, it’s only fun, when your console’s the one it’s on.

I have this feeling that Bloodborne 2 is happening…

I’m hoping for a ton of release dates, like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Absolver. Also I expect to see FromSoft show something they are working on, maybe Armored Core.

I don’t expect to see any Elder Scrolls 6 announcements, unless they literally reskinned Fallout 4, and that will be an automatic “don’t buy” for me. Bethesda needs to sit down and really think about their games, as Fallout 4 got panned pretty hard for story, graphics, and a few other things.

Plus, with ESO:Morrowind, I expect them to wait on any other Elder Scrolls stuff to prevent competition and confusion.

I can think of one possibility from Fromsoft:

I’m counting on seeing a Deep Down gameplay video and possible beta announcement. I also expect to see a release date for Absolver. And really hoping we’ll get some more info for Prey for the Gods and possibly a release date.
