Elden Ring Magma Blade Build Guide – Magma Spitter

In thisShadow of the Erdtreebuild guide, I’m excited to share myMagma Spitterbuild. This build revolves around theMagma Blade, a weapon you can find in the base game—not part of any DLC. Surprisingly, I haven’t made a build with this weapon before, even though there are probably a thousand builds online featuring it. However, I’ve combined this weapon with a few new items to enhance its effectiveness, and I think you’ll find some unique elements in this build that you’ll absolutely love.

In this Elden Ring Build Guide, I’ll be showing you my Magma Blade build. This is aShadow of the Erdtreebuild that takes place after level 160. A build that utilizes theMagma Bladeand DLC items to enhance its effectiveness.

We have over 110 Elden Ringbuilds. Each one is meticulously crafted to offer unique playstyles, strategies, and experiences, ensuring there’s something for every adventurer in the Lands Between. Whether you seek the raw power of heavy weapons, the finesse of spellcasting, or the versatility of hybrid builds, our collection has you covered. Explore the depths of the game’s mechanics and unleash your full potential with our diverse array of builds.

Let’s start by taking a closer look at theMagma Blade. This curved sword delivers both physical and fire damage, with scaling inStrength,Dexterity, andFaith. However, the Strength scaling is significantly stronger than the other two. Interestingly, despiteDexterityhaving a lower letter grade in scaling compared toFaith, it actually performs slightly better. This is why I’ve adjusted my stats to maximize damage, particularly focusing onStrength. This not only enhances the attack rating but also allows us to use aGreatshieldeffectively, which I’ll discuss shortly. This shield pairs incredibly well with the build, enabling easy block counters.

TheMagma Blade’sweapon skill,Magma Shower, is quite similar in animation toSpinning Slash. When you activate it, you spin around twice, slashing as you go, and simultaneously drop magma on the ground. This magma deals continuous fire damage to enemies standing in it, and the more you spin, the more magma accumulates. This combination results in extremely high damage output in a short time.

Now, this weapon skill has become even deadlier in the DLC, making it worth revisiting if you’ve used it before. One reason is the addition of theTalisman of The Dread, which boosts damage from magma-based skills and spells by about 10%. This means the magma you drop will do even more damage than before. Another game-changer is theOil-Soaked Tear, which debuffs nearby enemies by covering them in oil, increasing the fire damage they take. Since you need to be up close forMagma Shower, you’ll constantly coat enemies in oil, amplifying your fire damage further. When combined with theFlame-Shrouding Cracked Tear, you can stack this effect for devastating damage.

While some players prefer to dual-wieldMagma Blades, it’s important to note that the weapon skill only utilizes one sword. This means you don’t need two of them to useMagma Showereffectively. If you focus on the weapon skill, dual-wielding becomes unnecessary, which is why I only use one sword in this build.

As for the shield, I’m using theOne-Eyed Shield. ThisGreatshieldrequiresStrength, which we have plenty of, and it offers excellent guard boost and resistances, particularly against fire. The shield’s weapon skill,Flame Spit, allows you to launch a fire projectile at enemies. It has decent range when locked on, but you can unlock and arc it for even greater distance. The projectile deals pure fire damage and can be boosted with theFire Scorpion CharmorFlame-Shrouded Cracked Tear. If an enemy is coated in oil from theOil-Soaked Tear, they’ll take even more damage from it. This shield not only provides a strong ranged option, which theMagma Bladelacks, but also allows for block counters, making it an essential part of this build.

TheOne-Eyed Shieldexcels at offering a ranged attack to complement theMagma Blade’sshort reach. This combination gives you the flexibility to deal with enemies both up close and at a distance. You can block attacks, counter withFlame Spit, then switch back to your sword forMagma Shower—a versatile mix of offense and defense.

Additionally, I’m using aSacred Seal, specifically theErdtree Seal, which is incredibly light and doesn’t add to the equip load. I primarily use it for castingGolden VowandFlame, Grant Me Strength. These buffs enhance both your physical and fire damage, making them perfect for this build. However, if you want to incorporate more incantations, you could opt for theClawmark Sealand invest in moreFaithto make them truly effective in the DLC.

For armor in this build, I’ve chosen theFire Knight HelmandFire Knight Armor, paired withScaled GauntletsandScaled Greavesto achieve the look I’m going for. This combination gives me over 51 poise, which is crucial for maintaining balance during combat. TheFire Knight Helmprovides some useful stat boosts, including increasedStaminaandEquip Load, which are always beneficial. While theFire Knight Armorhas a bonus, it doesn’t directly apply to this build, so it’s more about the overall aesthetics and meeting the poise threshold.

The focus here is really on fashion, reaching that 51 poise mark, and getting the small bonuses from the helm. However, you can swap out the armor pieces based on your personal preference, as long as you maintain decent protection and keep your poise above 51.

For this build, I’ve chosen some key talismans to maximize effectiveness. TheTalisman of The Dreadis essential for boss encounters, especially when you’re planning to useMagma Showerfrequently.

However, when exploring the landscape, whereMagma Showerisn’t used as much, you might want to swap it out for something like theRitual Sword TalismanorCrusade Insignia.

TheShard of Alexanderis a must-have, as it boosts the damage of bothMagma ShowerandFlame Spit, making it invaluable for this build.

Similarly, theFire Scorpion Charmis crucial for increasing your fire damage, enhancing the effectiveness ofFlame SpitandMagma Shower. While this charm slightly reduces your protection, the combination of your armor andGolden Vowoffers ample defense.

I also recommend theRotten Winged Sword Insigniafor boss fights where you plan to spamMagma Shower. It significantly boosts your damage output during repeated attacks. However, like theTalisman of The Dread, it might not be as useful when exploring, so consider swapping it for theRitual Sword TalismanorCrusade Insigniawhen needed.

Finally, theTwo-Headed Turtle Talismanis worth considering, especially if you find yourself usingFlame Spitoften. It helps with stamina recovery, which is vital sinceFlame Spitconsumes a lot of stamina. If you useFlame SpitandMagma Showerequally during boss fights, this talisman can be a game-changer.

At level 171, here’s how my stats are distributed: 55Vigor, 35Mind, 35Endurance, 55Strength, 20Dexterity, 16Intelligence, 25Faith, and 9Arcane.IntelligenceandArcanearen’t necessary for this build, so you can ignore those stats.

Vigoris set to 55 because you’ll inevitably take damage during boss fights, especially when you’re trying to land aFlame Spitshot at a risky distance or when you’re spammingMagma Showerto keep the damage going. You’ll eventually want to push Vigor to 60, but there’s no need to go beyond that.

Mindis at 35 due to the high FP costs in this build.Flame Spitconsumes 28 FP, andMagma Showeruses 24 FP if you trigger it twice with L2 or the Weapon Skill button. You’ll burn through FP quickly, and you don’t want to interrupt a boss fight just to take a flask.

Enduranceis also at 35 to ensure you have enough stamina, given how muchFlame SpitandMagma Showerdeplete it, especially when you’re spamming them. This stat also helps increase your equip load, allowing you to wear heavier armor, which is crucial for surviving damage trades.

Strengthis at 55, which seems to be the sweet spot where the benefits start tapering off. From here, it’s up to you whether you want to focus onFaithorDexterity. If maximizing melee damage is your goal, then increasingDexteritymakes sense. However, if you’re leaning toward a hybrid build that incorporates spellcasting, you might want to invest inFaith. This will not only improve your casting with theClawmark Sealbut also boost the fire damage ofMagma Shower, making Faith a better overall choice for this build.

For theFlask of Wondrous Physick, I’ve pairedFlame-Shrouding Cracked TearwithOil-Soaked Tearand never change these. This combination significantly boosts damage output, making it a must-have for this build.

When it comes toGreat Runes, I recommend usingRadahn’s Great Runefor this setup. It provides a balanced boost to FP, health, and stamina, all of which are vital for maintaining this build’s effectiveness.Godrick’s Great Runeis also a solid option since you’re utilizing six out of the eight stats it enhances, so either choice works well.

That wraps up myMagma Spitterbuild! I hope you guys enjoyed this one. Honestly, this build is one of the most fun I’ve played in a long time. While it might not be the absolute deadliest, it’s still fantastic and performs exceptionally well. There’s something incredibly enjoyable about usingFlamespitandMagma Shower; both weapon skills add an element of fun that’s hard to match.
