Elex: When Scifi Meets Fantasy
The game’s premise is a post apocalyptic world devastated by a meteor impact. With the destruction of the world, the meteor also brought a substance known as Elex, which becomes the catalyst for renewal and advancement. The inhabitants of this world use Elex as a lifeforce and it forms the backbone of the story.
The world is load screen free, and similar to franchises such as Dark Souls, whatever you see can be reached and all interfacing is handled in game, no stoppage or pause menu. The game is unique in its option to explore vertical space via jetpacks. The open world is massive, geographically and thematically different depending on the climate and the culture of the faction present. The landscape is dynamic with creatures and NPCs behaving according to their own patterns and their interactions are emergent. You may run into a fight between two parties, and how you approach the resolution can result in new available quests. Alternatively, the game is adaptive. Every NPC can be killed, including quest givers and the game will account for this and adjust accordingly.
Combat is in third person and draws influences from several games, such as the aforementioned Souls series and the Elder Scrolls series. It affords players the opportunity to make use of a vast number of available weapons, from the pantheon of classic scifi and fantasy games. You can two hand a large sword straight from medieval lore, while having a laser blaster strapped to your side. Light and heavy attacks can be strung together to create combos, and players must manage their stamina between those actions and others like evasive rolling, parrying and blocking. Allowing a stamina bar to deplete can result in a guard break, opening you (as well as your foes) to a free attack.
The protagonist in Elex is fixed, we are playing the story of a specific individual who is betrayed by his own faction. The game is classless, and players can customize their gameplay via skills and stats that improve through progression. Equipment can be improved via upgrades, and gameplay elements like alchemy and recipe crafting from gathered resources will be present in the final version.
We’re told the game will have 60 hours of content if you explore and experience everything the game has to offer. For a game still in pre-alpha, there is a ton of potential to be realized here. The size, dynamics and scope of the title fill it with promise. We’ll continue to watch the game’s development closely and will be bringing more updates as we go!

Emergence
Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.
well I’m interested. I love fantasy Action RPGs, and this looks like Elder scrolls and Fallout had a baby.
Well that looks really interesting. Hope to see more!
