Exploring the Factions in Elex

In the upcoming Scifi/Fantasy RPG,Elexfrom Piranha Bytes and THQNordic we will be transported to a world calledMagalan, a once technologically advanced world of billions, now in a struggle to survive after their devastation by a meteor impact. However, the meteor also brought with it the elementElex, a precious, limited resource that arrived with the meteor. Elex can power machines, open the door to magic, or re-sculpt life into new, different forms. With this new power source offering hope for the future, severalFactionshave arisen to compete for control. Let’s take a look at a few of them and what their goals are.

TheBerserkershail fromEdanand have found a way to transmute Elex into pure Mana, a magical substance which they are using to transform the wastelands into lush, living woodland. Setting their goals opposite of the destructiveAlbs, the Berserkers are looking to offer the people of the world hope through the possibilities of magic.

TheAlbshail from the mountains ofXacor. They focus on harnessing the power of Elex for technological use as well as consuming pure Elex to become stronger, think clearer and free themselves from emotion. They claim Elex as their property and are motivated to conquer the land of Magalan, envisioning a future where the weak are sacrificed to make room for the strong.

TheClericstake refuge inIgnadon, the site of the meteor’s impact which is under constant volcanic activity. They follow the god Calaan, and see the consumption of Elex as a sin. The Clerics use Elex to power their machines as guardians of Magalan’s technology, focused on the promise and hope that technology can bring to the land. They envision a Magalan that is more advanced than before.

TheOutlawshail fromTavar, a rocky wasteland. They are scavengers of the ruins of the past and have no allegiance to any of the other ideologies. They live by the motto, that life may be brutal, but it’s free and easy, and that all shall be rewarded for their strengths. Seemingly anarchistic, they envision a future of chaotic freedom.

The game’s open world is massive, and thelocationsdiffer geographically and thematically depending on the climate and the culture of the faction present. These factions will form a backbone for many of the interactions in the game. As youquestthrough the world, you may run into a fight between two parties, and how you approach the resolution can result in new available quests. EveryNPCcan be killed, including quest givers and the game will account for this and adjust accordingly.

Emergence

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.

Hope you enjoy the read!

Missed it alright. Thanks.

For those of you who missed our alpha hands on, here is the linkhttps://fextralife.com/elex-when-scifi-meets-fantasy/

Sounds quite interesting. I gotta hand it to the Developing Parties though, a combination of SciFi and Magic will always be awesome…..that goes for me being a softcore fan of 40K.

Our hands on version of it was pre-alpha but it def had a Fallout meets Witcher feel to it. It’s definitely promising!

From the videos I’ve seen, its gameplay reminds me of Fallout 3. This is high praise from me – F3 is my favorite of the “modern” (those being 3, NV & 4) Fallouts.
