Fallout 4 Sparks Excitement as New Vegas 2 Update Rumour Appears
Fallout 4’s changelist showed a “newvegas2” depot, which prompted fans to be excited about the upcoming next-gen update of the popular RPG. However, this update didn’t last long as it was removed a few days later.
A few days ago, numerous “newvegas2” depots were spotted on SteamDB. This meant that Bethesda was clearly working on something huge for the upcoming update. But from the time it was discovered up until it was recently removed, the developers remained mum on what these changes could mean for the franchise.
Now, there are speculations that the possibility of including mods in the game could be greenlit. Others say that this popular depot has only been added as a joke to entice fans once more. Or it could even signal a New Vegas 2 DLC up in the works. Either way, there is not much information aside from a ton of strings and encrypted downloads. Community-created mods are also not too far out of the question, considering that Bethesda already did so with Skyrim’s Anniversary Edition.
Before Fallout 4, we had Fallout: New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Many, including fans of Fallout 1 and 2, considered this to be a spiritual successor of the original games because of its well-written storylines, factions, and characters you simply won’t ever forget. These were groups such as the highly ambitious New California Republic and the brutal Caesar’s Legion. New Vegas was brimming with charisma and soul that Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 seemed to lack.
It was even more impressive given that Obsidian Entertainment merely built upon the foundations that Bethesda themselves placed for Fallout 3. They were able to write and build a world full of character in an extremely small period of time.
In other Fallout news, thelive-action TV showproduced by Amazon Studios has finally finished filming. According to an Instagram post by actor Walton Goggins, he “wrapped up Fallout”. He also claims that a “large tsunami” is coming the way of fans of the post-apocalyptic game series. Aside from that, not much information has been revealed. We do know that wrapping up filming is still a long way till an entire release. A lot of effort goes into post-production, and this is especially true for a sci-fi show.
Hopefully, Bethesda and Amazon game studios are able to capture lightning in a bottle, just like other successful video games to minor screen adaptations. The recent monumental success of things like HBO’sThe Last of Usand Netflix’s Arcane andCyberpunk: Edgerunnersshould help keep them pumped up on the momentum.
This beloved game series has also been around for over 25 years. The original Fallout game was released way back in 1997 to critical acclaim. A mere year later, the second entry in the series was released. It had some minor spinoffs in the form of Fallout Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel. It wasn’t until Bethesda gained the rights that the series had wide mainstream acclaim. This was also met with some reluctance, as the game shifted into the first/third person real-time shooter instead of an isometric turn-based game.
Bethesda is also quite busy with its own projects. There is already a confirmedElder Scrolls 6, which will come sometime afterStarfield, whichreleases on September 6th. Starfield is certainly shaping up to be a rendition of Skyrim in space but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There are thousands of planets and more than 100 systems to explore as confirmed by Todd Howard.
Looking even farther into the horizon, we do know that aFallout 5 has been confirmed. As to when we can revisit the post-apocalyptic wasteland in this iteration is anyone’s guess at this point. Whether or not Bethesda will be collaborating with Obsidian in the development side of things is another question.
