Fallout 4 To Get Regular Updates, Mods, And DLC
In ablog posttoday, Bethesda announced a few things players can expect after the release of their upcoming franchise sequelFallout 4. While they’ve been careful to not spoil any of the story or gameplay details before launch, the company felt it was important to let fans know how they plan to support the game post launch. Here are the highlights:
Mods are something the console community has not yet been able to experience from Bethesda’sElder Scrollsand Fallout games, so this is exciting news for them. As a result the Creation Kit should compliment the experience for users on all platforms. Season passes for DLC are becoming more common, with Bethesda pointing out the value of their released DLC in past installments. What are your thoughts?

Well the wording of Bethesda’s post seems to imply that it is coming, only later than Xbox One. If it was a tentative or pending approval by Sony I feel that Bethesda would would say as much. They are quite careful with how they present info, so it would be a pretty big oversight for them to say otherwise.
Hey Emergence, did Sony confirm that they’re going to implement mod support? I remember a month or so ago when this news surfaced, Microsoft fell all over themselves to say, yes, they would, but Sony was a bit more vague, if I recall. I assume both would be all over this, but just wondered if there was definite confirmation from Sony.
I think it’s ridiculous they are charging 30$ for nothing, not even a list of content that is planned. People are paying 30$ for nothing. What’s the motivation to churn out quality products when people will spend their money with way?
Also they put it like “hey this is for our long term fans”. How so? Anyone can buy a season pass, it’s not just for long term fans. I’ll buy DLC if i want it, when i see it, i’m not gonna buy an IOU which is essentially what this is.
I don’t really mind season passes when they’re for games I know I’m going to be playing for a long time, so in Fallout 4’s case I’m gonna probably get it.
One thing I like that’s different about this season pass is that it will include ALL DLC the game will ever have, so often these days games come out with season passes that only cover maybe 1 or 2 expansions, or don’t include the cosmetic DLC. With this, you get it all, regardless of what it is, regardless of how long it takes to come out.
I always loved the mod support of Bethesda games (Skyrim, FNV). I love games with huge mod supports.
I agree about season passes. I do not have anything against them existing, and for some games such as dark souls I would not hesitate to get one, but in general I do not recommend them as their perceived value quickly fades against the unfortunately high chances that you will never play the content
It will be interesting to see how they handle “console mods”.Bethesda is going to have to police those like crazy!
One angry parent that finds out there is an “inappropriate” mod available for the console version and things could get ugly fast…(cough-hotcoffey-cough)
I can see Bill o’Reilly (Fox News Commentator) holding a copy of Fallout4 and the headline is reads:“New game gives points to players if they kill Jesus!… and then eat a puppy!”
But if they DO have console mods I want the knives/machetes from Book of Eli as soon as possible!
I really don’t like season passes. I would rather pay a little extra when dlc is released than pay ahead for dlc that I may not actually play.
I did get the Destiny season pass, but I didn’t pay full price. I think it was 25$, and I had a 10$ gift card thing for PSN, and I picked Destiny as my free game when I got my ps4.
No way I would get a season pass again though.
Mostly that while I trust Bethesda as much as one can realistically trust a company, season passes (much like pre-orders) are paying for a hypothetical product of unknown quality and thus a crappy thing.

It was actually on their website that they said mods will be available to consoles:
“Mods & Creation Kit
The most important thing in our games is the freedom you have to create your own experience, and modding is a big part of that. Like all our previous games, we’ve made sure to keep Fallout 4 open and moddable at every step in development. Early next year we’ll release for free the new Creation Kit for the PC. This is the same tool we use in the studio. You’ll be able to create your own mods and share them with others. We’re especially excited these same mods will then be coming to Xbox One, and then PlayStation 4.”
If consoles get mods at all. I remember Dragon Age Origins, The Sims, and Minecraft all have mods on pc but not on console. The closest was all the Skins console minecraft got.
I’ll be interested in seeing what the community creates with mods.
My best presumption is that using the Creation Kit will result in mods that are ready formatted for export to the console, and will be released to the consoles via a “Best Of” type application.
Yeah, it’ll likely be a curated list in the store page by Bethesda/Microsoft/Sony. Stuff like the huge amounts of visual mods, waifu simulators, gaming, film and other media crossovers and hardcore and softcore porn mods that you usually get drowned in with Bethesda titles are unlikely to be vetted for some mysterious reason.
I’m interested to see how mods on the consoles will work. On PC the design space has been established but it’s pretty out there to suggest it could come to consoles also. Though it could just be in the form of downloads of mods created on the PC
