Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Gets Stunning Gameplay Reveal; Demo Available Now

Square Enix revealed more gameplay at the Sony State of Play featuring Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and announced a demo out today on Playstation 5.

The Playstation State of Play revealed more gameplay for upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The broadcast also revealed a demo which is out now for Playstation 5 which lets players take a closer look at the game’s intro. It features a flashback of the Nibelheim section of the game. But that’s not all, as further content is heading to the demo on February 21st, which will unlock certain areas around Junon for fans to explore.

The gameplay unveiled for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth during the State of Play showcased new regions of the world that go beyond the demo. Chadley makes his return, here we can see how completing odd jobs and giving him research material play out.

A further look at mini-games were revealed at the Gold Saucer. There will be ones that appeared in the original getting a revamp plus some brand new ones. A quick preview of how each of the different graphics modes will work, including performance mode which will prioritise framerate and graphics mode which focuses on resolution being the priority.

The musical score will feature fan favourites from the original game, but also brand new arrangements adding over new 400 tracks.

Cloud can form bonds with companions but these can be affected by the choices you make during Quests. How they feel will ultimately determine whether they will go on a date to the Gold Saucer, and even have options that weren’t available in the original title. It also hints that inRebirth, your decisions will ultimately decide what happens to Aerith.

Party synergy will also play its part. As you level up your Party’s Synergy you will unlock new Synergy Abilities. This opens up a lot of customisation when it comes to party combinations in combat. It was previously shown that different pairings will have different Synergy Commands, the gameplay video confirms that every combination has one. You can also reset the folio at any time to experiment to your heart’s content.

Exploring also has a shake-up, as each different Character has their own benefits when it comes to interacting with the world. For example Barret as expected can shoot his way through most things, even knocking down a ladder. While Yuffie uses her excellent ninja-type abilities to swing across gaps using a rope. Tifa on the other hand uses a grappling gun to make her way across. But it’s not just the humans that can get around, Red XIII can climb up walls while Cait Sith can grab and throw items. Aerith is also quite handy, as she can manipulate the lifestream, which looks like we can unlock certain puzzles.

The demo explores Cloud Strife’s account of an early mission withSephiroth. It follows a flashback of bothCloudand Sephiroth on a mission to investigate a reactor that is malfunctioning in Mt. Nibel not far from Cloud’s hometown.

Together with a young Tifa as lead, the Soldiers will have to navigate through a difficult road to the reactor. This path is full of dangers such as beasts and industrial waste.

This section of the game is quite early on, but will give a good introduction to the combat system which introduces the new Synergy Abilities. While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will have similar combat to the first game, Remake, it builds upon it in the sequel. One major difference is you get to play as Sephiroth in this entry.

If you complete the demo, you won’t have to replay it when the full game releases. This will become a skippable section in the game. But it’s completely up to you if you want to refresh yourself with what happened and play as Sephiroth more than once. Seems reason enough.

The demo gets even better on February 21st, as players can get their hands on even more gameplay with the additional episode. This episode will take place in and around Junon. Players must complete the Nibelheim section first in order to access it.

Players will have free reign to explore the small section of the world at their own speed. Hunt down special monsters and even take up riding a chocobo! If you prefer to have some more objective gameplay you can go to Junon which introduces more story.

Square Enix explains in the official post that the demo is particularly tailored for players to get a taste of the upcoming game. Meaning the full game will have much much more content and a larger area to explore. This means not all is revealed in this demo for Junon, with plenty of content with the full launch.

If the experience of the demo isn’t enough, fans can get their hands on two bonuses for completing the demo. You will need to have the saved data on the same PS5 in order to claim the rewards for the game’s full release:

Players should note they should make sure their game is up to date before playing the full release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to make sure the items are claimable.
