They have since appeared in several iterations of the series and associated franchises like Kingdom Hearts, becoming almost synonymous with the game . We’ll monitor the countdown and update when the details are known.

Article updated with the big reveal, lol.

Final Fantasy XV has DLC wherein you can play as any of the 4 guys instead of just the one, each getting their own story. It kind of seems like something you would expect to be in the base game and that would have been in the base game in any previous FF (well maybe by the time they got to the last FFXIII game Square Enix was so nuts for microtransaction cash, I’ve not actually played either FFXIII sequel). FFXV is also an open world game. Nothing inherently wrong with that, and in fact some of my favorite games of all time have been open world (The Witcher 3 for example) but I have yet to play a modern open world game that wasn’t buggy on launch (The Witcher 3 was the least buggy open world game I’ve played and still crashed a half-dozen times or more during the first couple weeks I played including 1 corrupted save file).

Between those two things I think I’m going to take the same approach with Final Fantasy XV I took (well technically I’m still in the process of taking) with Fallout 4: wait till all the DLC is released and it’s all been debugged and the whole package is < $60 on Steam. I’m guessing that will be some time between 6 months and a year after release. In the meantime I’m likely to pick up and play Final Fantasy XII on PS4 (assuming they don’t figure out some way to give it microtransactions too like I assume they will to the FFVII remake).

Edit: Also, wrt moogles, I do hope this game will allow us to summon a moogle merchant out into the middle of nowhere and then not buy anything (effectively psychological torture). I forget which one you could originally do that it but it looked like a lot of fun and that he really got annoyed.
