Fire Emblem Engage Releases Story Trailer “The Divine Dragon Awakens”
Fire Emblem Engage just knows how to hype up fans of the beloved series. Their latest trailer shone some light on the game’s story, as well as its awesome visuals.
Nintendo released yesterday a full trailer that showcased many story points for the upcoming Fire Emblem Engage. The three-minute footage showed primarily cutscenes from the game, with tons of disjointed dialogue to hide the title’s true story beats.
It seems that things aren’t too simple with our colorful protagonist, Alear. Aside from having a rather unique blend of blue and red hair and clothes, our character is apparently something called a “Divine Dragon”. Much like the start of other RPGs, Alear conveniently has amnesia and thus is somewhat stumbling through the world.
In order to fully recover their memory, Alear will need to gather the 12 Emblem Rings scattered throughout the kingdom. Fire Emblem Engage’s Emblem Rings are unique and powerful artifacts that allow the Divine Dragon to summon heroes of old.
One particular hero that got a ton of screen time in the latest trailer is Marth (actually, Emblem Marth, to be clear), the hero of the original Fire Emblem. The reason why Marth was able to awaken in the first place was that Alear was able to “remember” him, perhaps by owning Marth’s Emblem Ring. Also the fact that Marth (or Emblem Marth) acknowledges that he is an emblem gives us the sense that these entities are aware that they are merely echoes of old heroes, and not actually people.
Alear can collect even more Emblem Rings throughout his journey. He can then bond and summon the old heroes to have them aid him in battle. Their ghostly apparitions thus sometimes pop out during combat, lending their strength to the various characters that the player has at their disposal.
The new trailer also gave us snippers of Roy, Ike, Lucina, and Lyn. These are the protagonists of Binding Blade, Path of Radiance, Awakening, and Blazing Blade games, respectively. Other heroes with Emblem Rings are Sigurd, Celica, and Byleth from the previous game, Fire Emblem Three Houses. Personally, I can’t wait to see Byleth back in action.
New info as well confirms that the Emblem Rings can have “evil” versions. While they didn’t show these rings summoning villains of the series, they contained the evil sides of familiar heroes.
Marth definitely knows more than he’s letting on. As Alear tries to ask Marth about his past, the latter just notes that our hero was “kind, just like you are now”. And he also alludes to the fact that Alear does not need to remember everything all at once.
Based on the original announcement, we do know that a Fell Dragon wrought death and destruction on the land of Fire Emblem Engage. The Dragon was bested by the four kingdoms united and thus was forgotten to time. Is there a chance that Alear is this Fell Dragon reincarnated?
Some fans have even begun speculating that Alear’s odd choice of hair, eye, and outfit colors isn’t simply an artistic choice. Perhaps “Blue” would pertain to the character’s kinder self, and the “Red” side is his burning past.
Fire Emblem Engage is stepping up its game in terms of graphics. If the trailer footage is anything to go by, we can see a huge graphical leap compared toThree Housesand evenThree Hopes. The visuals are extremely crisp and detailed and look almost like they popped out of an anime.
Hopefully, the gameplay itself is as smooth and visually stunning, as it was only cutscene footage shown off.
