From Software acquired by Kadokawa Publishing
TodayKadokawa Publishingannounced its acquisition of shares of From Software Inc. in a public press releaseavailable here.
This may seem surprising given the seeming press and print focus of the company, but it is of note that Bandai Namco Holdings isone of the primary shareholdersof the company, which may shed light on this distinctive decision.
The press release highlights the achievements of From Software such as owning its 3D technology and supporting successful international launches and recognition. It then indicates a desire to exploit synergies and strengths between the studio and Kadokawa Games so that both benefit from expanding marketing and global operations across all platforms and can successfully launch new IPs.
So how does the userbase feel about this? Yay or nay? Vote in the comments

We’ll see I guess. New direction could be good or bad. Same with stasis. My evidence..
Latest Souls game: Still love it
Latest armored Core game: bleh,
wow.. Wasn’t From under the Japan Studio umbrella? Just read an article which says they are a subsidiary of Trans-Cosmos. I wonder why they would sell off an asset like From who is netting them great revenue, which is what makes me concerned.
I don’t like buyouts because it means at least one of the companies is doing something wrong, financially (usually the company selling the subsidiary), and the buyer usually has an ambitious agenda and wants to change things. I hope the case is change in favor of From’s interests. IDK, im wary of it.
^and yeah, anime in this generation is abysmal. Gone are the days of titles such as Ninja Scroll and Vampire hunter D (with the exception of Studio Ghibli which I dont consider “anime.”
I hope they don’t decide to sap From’s videogame development efforts with a focus on Anime/manga or cloud-based cellular titles (which seems to be Kadowkawas directional focus)
I have never heard of Kadokawa, what are some of the games they made?
Perhaps their next title will feature more ‘over the top’ movements, like the Abyss Greatsword spinning flip attack, but bigger and farther. I would welcome this.
If they do decide to keep the series around, I’ll continue to give them money assuming they don’t turn it into an anime title. I find that stuff atrocious. I mean no offense to anime loving fans here on the forums. It’s just not my cup of tea I guess.
In some cases, this would be a bad omen, but with the souls series, and the direction its been going, theres no way they’d make a drastic change, if anything, maybe new and exciting things are on the horizon.
That’s awesome. Kadokawa games op.
I imagine they bought it because they liked their work. We probably have nothing to fear.
I wonder if they will revisit King’s Field. I wonder if it could be multiplayer. Its something I hoped for when I played it long ago… But after playing Dark Souls I’m not sure how it would work in first person.
Maybe now they’ll finally remake otogi >_>
I’ll hold my thought on this until their next game.
I would be happy about a new setting.
I think its about time they make a new IP. I want to see something else, I don’t want to see my favorite game series burned out and run into the ground. Technically Dark Souls was a new IP after Demon’s, just saying.
Thanks for that, just realised there was already a thread on this.

Merging
Just read it at gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/dark-souls-developer-from-software-purchased-by-lollipop-chainsaw-publisher-kadokawa/1100-6419249/).
Not sure what to think, a lot of time when a company with a great IP gets bought somehow the IP’s next release aint that great. But maby they will rock it… guess time will tell
For those of you who don’t know, From Software has been bought by Japanese company Kadokawa. They’re known for anime and some video games. What do you guys think about this new change in companies, good for the future of souls games or bad?I’m personally worried that they could make from make a new IP, and discontinue dark souls. This would suck as the series still has a lot more that they could get out of it.
Meh, a change in majority stock holders does not necessarily mean things will change.
As for fan service, From has done a decent amount of that themselves.
I mean, it’s not like the Souls games all haven’t all been laced with thinly veiled references to Berserk anyways. Hell, I can say with relative certainty that a lot of the feeling and atmosphere the games were built upon was From giving a nod to Miura and fans.
