From Software Confirms Work on Armored Core & 2 Other Games
In aninterviewwith IGN, From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed that the studio is working on 3 games at the moment, one of which is confirmed to be Armored Core.
“So there are several titles that we are currently working on. Some of those are dark fantasy, some of those could be a mech [game] – that’s one thing. The second thing is that one of the new titles I’ve been working on will probably comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner.
The last thing is that another title will probably be a little bit weird. When we actually announce the title, probably fans will react with ‘oh, what the hell is this very weird game that Miyazaki has created?’”
After confirming that one of the titles is Armored Core, Miyazaki went on to say the following:
So when I say weird, I mean that the genre we’re trying to try might be a little bit weird. Not only that, but all the other actual game content might be a little bit weird, yes.
There are still several obstacles we need to overcome to launch those new titles, so we’re not sure how many more years we need to build those, but we’re looking forward to making an announcement in the future.
So Soulsborne fans can take heart that at least one of the games will be in that vein of third person action. We’re very curious to see what this new weird title is as well as what a new Armored Core could look like. We don’t have to wait too long for new content though, asAshes of Ariandelis due forDark Souls 3in a little over a month. Thoughts on what you’d like to see from From Software going forward?

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
Armored core hype!
I felt like the AC franchise peaked with IV and For Answer. I wouldn’t mind them doing revisit though with some of the concepts in those games finding somewhat different directions in the Soulsborne games. I think they could really refine the series with lessons learned in Souls.
For a “weird” title, something vibrant could be intriguing. However, one genre I’ve always felt could be improved with better design and storytelling elements is Westerns. This is my selfish wish for their “weird” title. I’ve seen many interesting gameplay concepts in this genre, but with rare exception the story and atmosphere is preeetty bad.
I hate to say this, but if the past is any indication, From will rely heavily on existing gameplay mechanics. As I’ve mentioned time and time again, Demon’s Souls/Dark Souls/Bloodborne borrowed a TON of concepts from Armored Core (which borrowed many of them from other titles). So I picked a Western as my wish because I have little faith in them completely reimagining how a game will play. I do think though, that they are masters at making subtle differences between titles that have a big impact. I could make a lengthy list of ways in which AC, Souls and Bloodborne use the same concepts. The bottom line though is that they FEEL different.
As such, I’d love to see some of their core (get it) mechanics like quicksteps and counters brought to the wild west.
I remember playing one of the Armored Core game demos on the free demo-disc that came with the first Playstation’s way back in the day…and I remember enjoying the shit out of it back then, though I’ve never touched an AC game since.
To be honest I had a good four year hiatus from video games altogether because a friend convinced me to try DS1 and the rest is history. I’m not a fan of medieval action/rpgs as much as I am a fan of the way FromSoft makes games in general. I expect a Miyazaki Armored Core will be very fun.
I hope we get an action rpg/ dark fantasy that’s completely new and seperate from soulsborne. I’m excited to see what the future brings, hopefully we don’t have to wait too long. I’m not a huge fan of armored core so it doesn’t really interest me.
