FromSoftware’s Miyazaki Addresses Bloodborne Remake Demands
FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki talks about the possibility of a Bloodblone remake in the wake of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree hype.
A Bloodborne remake has been a hot topic of contention for some time now, but is FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki ready to give the fans what they want? Well, not quite yet. He did however discuss the idea of bringing the beloved game to newer-gen hardware and its benefits.
When asked the question of whether he would be bringing the title to more modern platforms he neither denied nor confirmed whether this would happen. As in the past, he states that FromSoftware doesn’t currently own the IP. This means it’s not really his “place” for when, if or how Bloodborne will get a remake. He did however share how “happy” he was to hear that fans are still “passionate” about an updated version.
Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it.
He went on to explain that the game would greatly benefit from gaining more modern hardware as this “gives remakes value”. It also means the game will be able to do things that the “previous generations of hardware” could not due to their limitations such as “render specific expressions”.
It’s true that with the PS5 being released it certainly gave better performance and advantages with limited loading screens for current-gen games. It simply comes down to IP ownership. Speaking of IP ownership recent registrations have appeared online about theElden Ring IP being solely ownedby FromSoftware. This gives them a lot of control over the game. However, Sony owns the IP and it doesn’t look likely they’d part with it being an exclusive to Playstation.
It looks for now Miyazaki can’t say whether Bloodborne will ever get remade but stranger things have happened.Demon’s Soulswas one of the first major titles to launch on PS5, gaining a refreshed look under Bluepoint Games treatment. Whether Bloodborne could undergo a similar experience would bring the game up to speed whether for this generation of hardware or the next. But this doesn’t look very hopeful for PC fans who hope the game will be ported.
This hasn’t stopped fans such as modder/dataminer Lance McDonald from releasing an unofficial mod to get the game running at4K at 60 FPS. Currently the game runs at30 FPS on PS5, but this modder has shown it’s possible to improve upon this. There’s also plenty of cut content unearthed by the same dataminer who has found some interesting bosses that didn’t quite make the final cut. All I have to say issnake ball, let that marinate while we think about the possible horrors we’ve yet to see in the game.
In the past Miyazaki has shared how this title hasremained dear and near to his heartbeing a game he got to do it his “way”. But he still has some ideas for further improvements including more detailedChalice Dungeonsand moreBlood Gems. The game has also gone on to gain easter eggs in non-souls titles such as the VR game Déraciné which has a cheeky poke at the heartstrings of Soulsborne fans by including a doll that uses a similar “make contact” gesture found in the game. This means the studio still has the game on its mind. Maybe we’ll get a sequelBloodborne 2someday?
But FromSoftware does have their hands full still with the highly anticipated DLCElden Ring Shadow of the Erdtreewhich will be coming in June. Thenew gameplay trailerrevealed new bosses, weapons, magic spells and more.
