Genshin Impact Update 4.0 Adds a Magical Touch and the New Fontaine Region
Genshin Impact Update 4.0 is now available, and adds some new magical characters, a new region, and more!
Travelers will finally be able to step into theHydroArchon’s realm, Fontaine!
Fontaine is all about style and showmanship, as evident inGenshin Impact’s 4.0 trailer. We know that the main city we will explore will be a wonderfully blue settlement, one filled with various waterways and tubings, circulating all throughout the area. It bustles with life, both natural and synthetic. That’s right, the city is protected b various automatons called Gardemeks and is adorned with wondrous technological marvels as well.
Trials are treated with more attention than necessary: they are treated as operas full of showmanship and spectacle. Apparently, this is something that attracts grand audiences, especially those in seats of power.
Being part of the Hydro Archon’s domain also means that there are tons of beautifully expansive underwater areas that the player can swim through. There will be plenty of activities to partake in beneath the seas, such as exploration, combat, racing (more on that later), and event ocean life photography.
As with any substantial Genshin Impact update, the “As Light Rain Falls without Reason” patch includes many newcharacters. This time around, the game puts two magician siblings on center stage. Meet Lyney and Lynette, two famous Fontaininan magicians that are very charismatic and scene-stealers.
Lyney the new 5-Star character, surprisingly enough, is actually a Pyro Bow user and not Hydro. He is an AoE DPS character that can create explosions or summon magic top hats (filled with cats, no less) to unleash devastating damage. His sister is also not of the Hydro persuasion and instead is an Anemo sword-wielder. She has extremely quick sword strikes and slashes, can turn herself invisible, and even summon her own top hat that deals area damage.
Since we’re also exploring a new Genshin Impact region entirely, our Traveler character will also unlock their new Hydroelementform. This can be done after players resonate with a Statue of the Seven within the Hydro Archon’s domain. The Hydro form can be used to unleash torrents of water that rush your foes, or even create a bubble that continuously drowns enemies.
Genshin Impact 4.0 will add a slew of neweventsand minigames that eager Travelers can partake in. Collectively called the “Mega Meka Melee”, the Fontaine region will have three different events. The local Clockwork Workshop requires players’ help, but nothing is ever easy or simple in Teyvat.
The first game is called “Dance Dance Resolution” which has players controlling a stationary clockwork robot. This bot has two hammer-like hands which they will need in order to whack any problematic creatures that rain down from top to bottom, just like the nodes in Dance Dance Revolution.
Next up is the Torrential Turbulent Charge, which looks to be an underwater obstacle course. Players will need to swim through the ocean and go through currents that increase their speed. It isn’t quite clear yet what the ultimate objective is, but knowing Genshin Impact, players will likely have a set time to beat in order to get their various rewards.
Last in the Meka Melee is the Efficacy Testing Simulation Arena, which just looks like a regular combat arena. Based on the name, it is probably a training room kind of deal, that has players select various targets that they can wail on with impunity.
Of course, that’s not all being added to Genshin Impact’s major update. Players will get to cook up new recipes and create some more beautifully rendered food. There will also be events called “Relic Records: Creations of the Hydro Nation” that will have Travelers travel throughout the new Fontaine Region.
Players who also have tons of characters in their roster and like switching things around can also look forward to the newly optimized party setup screen. You can load characters faster than ever now! Speaking of optimizations, the world map will also get multiple layers, allowing easier access when exploring underground caves and labyrinths.
After a relatively quietUpdate 3.7, Genshin Impact’s 4.0 Update is extremely meaty, as expected of a major patch. We get to step foot in an entirely new region, after 3.0’sDendroarea, get to meet tons of new characters, face off against manyinteresting foesandbosses, collect newweapons, and partake of many new events. More importantly, our hero can take on the Hydro form as well!
