Granblue Fantasy Relink Vane Build & Character Guide
Vane in Granblue Fantasy Relink, is the cheerful vice-captain of the Freendrache’s Order of the White Dragons. When it comes to battles, he is often seen charging headlong into enemy lines, spearheading most of the party’s attacks.
Given his ability to wield monstrous axes while maintaining his nimbleness in combat, Vane can shred enemies with powerful hard-hitting blows while also protecting the main party by being a reliable tank.
Vane’s gameplay in Granblue Fantasy Relink revolves around powerfulCombo Finisherswhich fill up hisBeatdown Gaugein combat. This special gauge allows Vane to dish out a unique combo that deals with wide arching axe swings and results in high damage numbers. But the main advantage of these special attacks is while Vane is in the middle of his special attack animation, he can also block incoming attacks if you time it perfectly, making him one of the best tanks out there. His Combo Finishers can be connected to Link Attacks, making it even easier to fill his Beatdown Gauge.
His overall skill repertoire is even more interesting since most of his skills provideVanehealth-sustaining capabilities in combat making him even more reliable in tanking, even without a dedicated healer in your party.
Of course, he does have very hard-hitting offensive skills as well that can also be connected to his Combo Finishers which can also replenish his health after landing one.
This special passive allows Vane to perform his special combo by consuming his Beatdown Gauge.
As mentioned previously, his special combo can block attacks without being interrupted when timed perfectly. The Dragon Within special passive gives Vane the ability to do so.
Now that is out of the way, let’s move on to Vane Skills. I will be going through each of them and providing my recommendations as well to give you an idea of how these skills are being utilized.
The first skill on the list is Arms of Destruction. Vane will release a devastating frontal shockwave that deals a high amount of stun damage to targets. This is useful when breaking enemy parts and even scoring more Combo Finishers because of frequent Link Attacks.
Heroic Beat is Vane’s gap closer skill where he lunges to his target and lands a powerful hitting blow. What is good about this skill is its ability to restore Vane’s HP in the process.
Rift Divider is Vane’s multi-hit assault strike that pulls enemies close to Vane, useful when fighting a large group of enemies. Grouping enemies while also dealing with them is so convenient in combat, especially when dealing with Boss adds.
Moving on to the next skill which is Drachenstolz. This skill provides Vane with 30% additional Attack and Defense Buff but Guts is the main attraction here. It will allow Vane to survive lethal damage with 1 HP left. As a tank, this is essential especially when the user is trying to adjust to his gameplay.
Rampart is Vane’s support skill which he unleashes a shield dome that grants Invincibility to his allies when they enter the said dome. Vane can prolong this skill for a limited duration to grant more protection to his party members.
This skill is pretty useful when playing in Multiplayer as you can skip certain fight mechanics by just placing the shield dome. But what is interesting about this skill is when Vane stops the Shield Dome, the Invincibility Buff will not lapse right away. It will give the user a decent time to move around and position themselves in the arena.
The next skill on the list is Breakthrough which is a major Provoke Skills while also buffing Vane with 30% Attack. This skill is perfect when dealing with hordes or main bosses as well since Vane is a tank anyway. Vane is capable of tanking every hostile enemy since his Combo Finishers can also replenish his health while also giving him the ability to block attacks in the process.
Soul Eruption is Vane’s emergency sustain which fully restores his HP when his HP is below 30%. While buffing himself with an additional 50% Attack and Defense in the process. This skill makes a Vane a sustainable character even when tanking a lot of damage or even without a dedicated healer.
Energy Destruction is Vane’s strongest offensive skill however, its overall firepower relies on how full Vane’s SBA gauge is. This skill is extremely potent if you are playing in a single-player session since you can control when the party will use their SBAs.
But in multiplayer, there is a high chance that players will use their SBAs whenever they want to, so you will not be able to take advantage of this skill to its full potential.
Now that we’ve covered all of his skills, here are my skill recommendations. Vane is a tank that can deal extensive amounts of damage to targets, making him one of the best tanks in the game.
I suggest usingHeroic Beatto position yourself easily in combat. Lunge skills or gap closers skills are often non-negotiables in this game since most of them are melee-focused characters. I suggest slottingArm Destructionto stun targets easily or even break parts conveniently if you are hunting certain monster parts.
The third skill is Soul Eruption just in case the user suffered a lot of damage and needs more sustain, this skill is a perfect choice. The last skill on the list isDrachenstolzdue to theGutsbuff it provides. This is pretty useful on clutch moments where the user gets caught up in a certain mechanic or direct attack from bosses, the user will be able to survive with 1 HP.
WhileRift Divideris not a bad choice especially when you are dealing with hordes. Breakthrough is also suggested if you want to constantly get the enemy aggro since you will be the main tank of the party.
Now that skills are out of the way, let’s tackle the suggested builds for Vane. Since his gameplay revolves around heavy-hitting attacks and constant access to Attack Buff, my main recommendation is to build him around, Damage Cap, Combo Finshers, and Critical Chance to take advantage of his massive DPS in combat.
Starting with his weapon first. Since we will be building him as a pure damager and a Tank, I chose his Ascencion Weapon Treuer Kriger. Just in case you want to max Attack Power and HP Trait later on, this weapon will give you a decent foundation on achieving that while also giving you a little bit of an HP. Also, you will want to ascend this weapon soon anyway.
This weapon alone adds a level 25 Attack Power Trait and level 15 HP Trait when uncapped to level 150 so it will give you a headstart. Although the Attack Power Trait is not a priority in this build, it’s nice to have.
When it comes to Sigils, we will be prioritizing offensive traits to fully utilize his damage potential while also adding some of the other Traits that I think will work best with this build. If your Sigil slots are limited at the moment, prioritize Damage Cap.
Note that the tiers of the suggested Sigils in this setup are not mandatory but the ideal ones. Equipping the right Sigils is more important so just equip yourself with what you have, especially in the early parts of the game or when you just reached the endgame.
When playing on Proud Difficulty Quests, enemies can take you down in one to two hits. So increasing your HP withHealthor Aegis Sigils will give this build more survivability.
Depending on your skill level or how well you know a certain fight, you can remove this and equip more offensive Sigil types so you can enjoy higher damage like Damage Cap for example. I suggest aiming for at least level 15 to 26 for HP Trait and level 11 to 13 Aegis Trait to gain a substantial boost to HP. Since Vane is a Tank, he will appreciate more HP to increase his overall survivability.
Damage Cap Sigils play a pivotal role in increasing your overall damage when reaching endgame. This Trait increases your damage ceiling so pay attention if you are not gaining higher damage numbers despite increasing your Attack Stat or adding other damage multipliers.
If you notice that your damage is not increasing after equipping more damage multiplier, this is the time that you need to add Damage Cap Trait to gain more damage. You can easily increase your damage by cranking up your Damage Cap. In this specific setup, I managed to level it up to level 53 to gain a 185% increase in my damage cap.
Of course the higher the value, the better results you can get. Assess your inventory and adjust later on. You will be freeing Sigil Slots later on as you level your current one to max so it will give you headroom to slot in more Damage Cap Sigils.
Critical Chance Sigils are expected for this build. Since we will be focusing more on the Damage Cap Trait, our main goal is to have at least 70% Critical Hit Chance. Level 22 Critical Hit Rate Trait will give you a 26% Critical Hit Chance and that is enough to reach the ideal percentage.
Playing with the applicable Wrightstones can also help you achieve this high-level trait so keep this in mind. Assess what you have and use it accordingly. For instance, I do have a Wrightstones that adds more Critical Hit Rate and other bonus Traits which will give us a decent bump on achieving our set goals for this build.
Vane’s Gameplay revolves around dealing with frequent Combo Finishers. Thus it is advisable to bump up his Combo Finisher multiplier to deal more damage. In this specific build, I have a level 18 Combo Finisher Trait which provides an additional 38 Damage dealt.
The first ones that I mentioned should be prioritized especially when you just reached Proud Difficulty. But just in case you are looking for more options, the next list of Sigils are the ones that can work well with this build.
Enmity Trait will indeed work for Vane since it is likely that you will be receiving a lot of damage so lowering your HP will not be an issue since you are the main tank in your party. If you are not hitting the Damage Cap, Enmity Trait will work great in this build.
Since Vayne is the main tank of the party, Provoke Sigils may come in handy. If you want to maintain the enemy’s aggro, then slotting in one to two high-tier Sigils will work. If your slots are limited, I suggest going for at least level 22 Provoke Trait.
Now that we already tackled the build for Vane, let’s now move on to his actual usage. The majority of his DPS comes from his Combo Finishers and special combination attacks when using his Beatdown Gauge charges. What I usually do is buff myself with Drachenstolz at the start of the battle to gain its provided Guts, Attack, and Defense Buff.
Depending on the boss’s position and if it’s out of reach, Using the Heroic Beat skills is the best option while also chaining it to a Combo Finisher. Always remember to take advantage of his Combo Finisher since it is the fastest way to fill in his Beatdown Gauge.
Always remember to Combo Finishers especially when using Heroic Beat and Arms of Destruction so you can fill his special gauge quickly.
When his Beatdown Gauge is full, I usually start using it and deal a significant amount of damage to targets. Arms of Destruction is being utilized if I want to stun a certain target or even break enemy parts. Soul Eruption is being utilized if you receive substantial damage to your targets.
You will be restoring Vane’s HP to full while also getting a 50% additional Attack and Defense Buff. If you are playing solo, you can change Soul Eruption with Energy Destruction since you can utilize this if your SBA is at 100% to deal even more damage.
In terms of party composition, Vaseraga can fill in the main Tank and DPS role. You can bring another DPS as a stunner if you wish so you can enjoy more Link Attacks. Pair them with two supporting characters or slot in a hybrid character and you are all set.
For party composition example, a Vane set as the main tank and also a damager of the group. The secondary DPS is Lancelot who can freeze enemies with hisKaltzwinger Skill. When the target is frozen, Vane can easily spam his Beatdown Gauge combo to deal even more damage.
Cagliostrocan fill in the main support role this time with her all-around buffs which are Phantasmagoria and burst heals. She can also do the revives when needed and can inflict Attack Down debuff on targets.
The last man would be Percival who can be a DPS, Support Role. He can buff the entire team with Attack and Defense up and since it is a unique type of buff, it stacks with Cagliostro’sPhantasmagoria.
This is just one example of a party composition that can work with Vane. I am pretty surprised how Vane performed in combat. Having the ability to tank and deal damage at the same time is simply amazing. This is one of the reasons players are calling him the best tank in the game.
