Harvestella Details the Most Dangerous Season of All: The Quietus
Harvestella ramps up the Quietus, details additional activities, and more in the last pre-release preview.
In just a day (or even less, depending on when you read this), Square Enix’sslice-of-life gameHarvestella will be released. This totally original new IP is Square’s very own blend of Fantasy Action RPG and Harvest Moon. Since they’ve already discussed all of the game’s major seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter), today they go about the most dangerous of all: The Quietus.
Called by some the Season of Death, the Quietus is the most terrifying and unnatural of phenomena. It will be up to the player, and their plants, to discover its secrets.
The Quietus in Harvestella is quite a destructive occurrence. Instead of sweet summer heat, or a gentle autumn breeze, people are treated to various sand storms. These tempests bring upon winds and debris so bad that it makes it difficult for people to breathe, let alone animals and other fauna.
Harvestella citizens must take refuge and wait out the events, taking shelter wherever possible. During these Quietus events, a unique dungeon opens up. The Quietus dungeon is only accessible during these terrible storms, and yet has quite an allure to them.
Hidden under a well is a labyrinthian cavern system, just sitting right under the population’s noses. These pathways lead deeper and deeper into some ferocious and deadly creatures. What awaits those explorers brave enough to fight through the depths is anyone’s guess right now.
Rounding off the various exoticjob classeslike the Avenger, Mechanic, Woglinde, and Pilgrim is the Lunamancer. This Harvestella job class excels in using Gravity Magic.
If this is anything like the Black Magic that we see in any Final Fantasy games, the Lunamancer should be a pure magic-based class. In Harvestella, they are described to make heavy use of large area-of-effect abilities that can potentially fill the screen. They can also debuff their foes, making them easier to be picked off by the rest of your group.
Perhaps we can expect to see skills and abilities such as Demi, Graviball, or Gravitystrike. Just like the other job classes, once the player recruits a Lunamancer character into their party, they can also make use of this profession.
Harvestella’s got quite the laundry list in terms of possible things to do. Just like any life-sim, there seems to never be an end to the possible activities. We’ve seen that players can manage their crops, take care of livestock, or even cook delicious meals. Players can even explore the four major cities, befriend people, and even walk about the world map.
Now, the team has confirmed that Cooking Deliveries will be another side activity to add to the pile. This should be a perfect way to make use of all the various ingredients that we plant. Various members of the cities can request specific dishes from the players. If they’re up to the challenge, cooking and giving these to the NPCs will reward players with money and possibly even more recipes to try out.
Next is a small collectible called the Conellu Doll. Just like anyRPG, there are hidden gems to be found in the oddest of places and farthest of corners. In Harvestella, a certain chief is looking for these adorable Conellu Dolls that resemble Vivi from Final Fantasy IX. These dolls can be found in various spots. The dolls can then be exchanged for various and often wonderful rewards.
Harvestella recently had ademo releasedon the Nintendo Switch. The reception was generally positive back then, but there was a resounding complaint that the developers have heard quite clearly. Apparently, there are not enough hours in the day to achieve everything that the players set out to do (quite like real life, I suppose).
As such, days will be much longer in the full release of the game. Players will be able to do everything they love without less pressure to cram everything into a short time span. This speed adjustment will apply to both the open-world map and the main gameplay loops.
In terms ofcombat, it will be more apparent whenever your character is at low health. A brand-new warning will be implemented to make sure you know when to top off your HP! Job Switching is also being made more seamless by reducing its cooldown. Players should be able to chain attacks from different professions much easier now.
Other improvements include reduced load times and other bug fixes. Unfortunately, only the main game will be updated. The demo’s version will stay as-is.
