Harvestella Updates Show off Snowy Winter and Blistering Summer
Harvestella shows off the Summer and Winter, four new job classes, and tons more in their latest updates.
Square has also been teasing us with some info, the latest being the Winter and Summer seasons. Alongside these updates are the usual teases on new characters, jobs, and food!
Harvestella’s seasons are quite a unique thing. All the four usual temperaments, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, are all regulated by the Seaslight. These gargantuan monoliths are responsible for ensuring the seasons correctly flow from one to the next. However, this natural cycle is being disrupted by the Quietus, and heralds horrific dust storms, among other perils.
Harvestella will have four large cities that each follow a specific season. The region that is bathed in the best summers is called Shatolla, a small seaside town. Shatolla is a beautiful little alcove that has some appropriately beach-themed buildings, and is even built upon some coral barriers that were left behind by the tides.
As expected, fishing is the biggest and most effective way to earn a day’s wage in Shatolla, since it is right beside the vast ocean. Some sailors however have reported that gigantic bubbles have started appearing over the horizon due to the coming of the Quietus.
Attempting to visit the local Seaslight will trigger the player to enter the Coral Shrine. This is a Harvestella dungeon that is like an underwater palace filled with some nasty sea creatures.
On the extreme opposite of the spectrum is the wintery Holy Capital Argene. This medieval-styled town has an eternal fog about it, bathing the city in an eerie yet calming glow. Argene is extremely devout and thus has massive cathedrals erected for use of The Seaslight Order.
Due to its chilly temperature, the Holy Capital is also lucky enough to have frequent visits by the Aurora Borealis, the northern lights in the sky. Beside it is the Winter Seaslight s well as the Divine Cave that houses it.
It was previously confirmed that there will be multiple job classes that the player may choose from in Harvestella. There will be various ways to unlock each class and will have different types of requirements. The most basic will be the Fighter, Mage, and Shadow Walker.
Also confirmed previously were the spear-wielding Sky Lancer and the mechanically infused Assault Savant. Introduced now are the Mechanic, Woglinde, Avenger, and Pilgrim.
Mechanics are adept at wielding various gadgets to be able to hinder and debuff enemies. Since they use material objects, they tend to deal physical damage. The Woglinde is basically Harvestella’s version of a bard, they make use of both magic and song to buff their allies.
On the other hand, the Avenger is a long-randed class that makes use of rifles. They can also imbue their hits with elemental fire and ice magic. Last is the Pilgrim, a magic user who channels their power through swords instead of staves. What makes the Pilgrim unique is that they specialize in area of effect damage, be it burst or setting up fields that do constant tick damage.
Another update forHarvestellawas that of the confirmation of a Skill Board. Each job class in Harvestella will have a unique skill board that will contain both Active and Passive Abilities. At the start, the available options will be quite limited. Players will need to achieve specific criteria to unlock more options. These can range from simply progressing through the respective Skill Board, to actually increasing your relationships with various characters.
To be able to invest in the Skill Board, players will need to spend Job Points to allocate into the various nodes. It isn’t clear just yet how players will acquire these Job Points, but since there are tons of classes it might mean that we might need to be frugal with spending these. At least, early on.
Another cool thing that this update showed is that the entire Skill Board looks to have a maximum of 12 job-specific boards. Looks likeHarvestellastill has 3 more classes to surprise us with!
Last on the bigger features announced was the confirmation of FEAR enemies (all caps intended for some reason). While this acronym by itself is not too scary, the foes that they represent will be. Some of the dungeons that players will explore contain these FEAR-level foes, and will be much stronger and visually distinct compared to their lesser brethren.
FEAR foes will be a huge challenge at all points of the game, and may even eclipse your party’s level in many cases. Downing them will reward those who take on the challenge with powerful items and artifacts.
Dungeons may even make it seem impossible to complete due to FEAR enemies blocking the path. However, there will always be a way to proceed without engaging these targets. The environment will have various interactions that can allow the player to pass, depending on the location.
As usual, Square Enix also treated players to some mouth-watering food items that the players may collect or cook up in Harvestella. There’s also the confirmation that you can share your meals with your party, and these can also sometimes trigger unique story beats as well. No confirmation though, if there will be romance options.
Harvestella’s demo is live now on the Nintendo Switch. Progress in the demo will carry over to the main game, and fans can play up until Chapter 2. Pretty generous.
