Hideaki Itsuno to Lead the New LightSpeed Japan Studio

Hideaki Itsuno, director ofDevil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, has joined Tencent’s Japanese branch to create AAA action games.

The legendary director, renowned for his work on iconic franchises, has officially announced that he will join LightSpeed Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent, as the head of their newly established Japanese division. This new team, based in Tokyo and Osaka, will focus on developing original AAA action games.

“Joining LightSpeed Studios is an exciting new chapter for me,” Itsuno stated. “With LightSpeed’s strong development capabilities and global network, I look forward to creating original AAA action titles alongside an incredible team, crafting innovative and aesthetic experiences for the global gaming community.”

After 30 years at Capcom, the acclaimed developer left the company in August. His most notable works include the latest installments ofDevil May Cry, bothDragon’s Dogmatitles, as well as the beloved gamesPower StoneandRival Schools.

The creation of the LightSpeed Japan Studio is part of Tencent’s international expansion strategy, aiming to strengthen its presence outside China with studios in key locations like the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Canada.

LightSpeed Studios, known for their work onPUBG Mobileand the recent survival RPGUndawn, has been branching out into AAA productions. With Itsuno’s leadership, expectations are high for the Japanese team to deliver highly anticipated projects in the future.
