Also this week Warner Bros. released a new video sharing the cast of voice actors who are in the game. One big reveal was for the Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black who is played by Simon Pegg. In the video Pegg explains that this headmaster is the “least popular” in Hogwarts’ history and also the great-great-grandfather of Sirius Black. Players should watch out for this devious character as he will try to “scupper the efforts of the player”. This Headmaster also sounds like quite a disliked wizard as he’d rather attend to his “manicured beard” than actual Hogwarts duties, a far cry from the beloved Dumbledore. He’s essentially taken up the role for prestige rather than as an educator. Having Simon Pegg take up such a character is great, who wouldn’t want the comedic actor as their Headmaster? This will probably cause a love-hate relationship with this Headmaster for most, due to the character’s pompous behaviour. Either way, I can’t wait to see how this role turns out.
If you’re wondering where you may have seen Phineas before, he actually appears in both books and films. His portrait hangs in the office of Dumbledore. But this time players will actually get to see him alive and in person. While a magical portrait usually only shows a small part of that character’s living existence, it sounds like we will be seeing a lot more of Phineas in the game. He doesn’t sound like a very likeable character, despite being related to Sirius Black, they are not alike in qualities at all. Describe as “not noble” or “self-interested” could be both troublesome or helpful for the player.
The full cast of voice talent was revealed with Lesley Nicol playing Professor Matilda Weasley, the Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts, and Kandace Caine as Professor Onai, the Divination teacher and gifted Seer. Then there is Sohm Kapila as Professor Satyavati Shah the teacher of Astronomy.
There is also a returning cast member from the original films who will be taking up a different role. Luke Youngblood who played Lee Jordon the energetic school Quidditch commentator will be taking up the role of student Everett Clopton, a Ravenclaw. He’s a bit rebellious as he’s described as an “underachieving rule-breaker and prankster”. This is in stark contrast to Asif Ali’s Ravenclaw character Mahendra Pehlwaan who is an “avid rule-keeper”.
The playable character in the game is also voiced by either Sebastian Croft or Amelia Gething depending which you decide to pick. The infamous Nearly Headless Nick and the Sorting Hat are voiced by Jason Anthony. The Sorting Hat is such a curious object as it can determine where students will be placed in terms of houses. It will look into a student’s past, characteristics and intentions to determine whether they will be Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Gryffindor.
The Wizarding World website confirmed some details about the game through its version FAQs. In case you missed it, it explained that by enrolling into Hogwarts mysteriously as a 5th-year student, you will have your own Sorting Ceremony (this was previously already shown in snippets of trailers). If you already have a house from using the Wizarding World website, you can connect your account to the WB Games website in order to use the same one. This includes transferring our Wand Ceremony chosen wand into the game too. You can also fly in the game via broomstick or Hippogriff, so if you’ve ever wanted to explore the grounds from above nows your chance.
Hogwarts Legacy has had quite a number of pre-orders, topping the Steam charts already for thetop 10 in salesdespite having not released yet. It also gained themost wishlisted game. But it hasn’t been a bed of roses for the franchise, as controversy has been prevalent. Its connection to the author J.K. Rowling, the author of the original Harry Potter series of books upon which the game is based, has not been ignored and has made many boycott the game altogether after controversial comments made by the author. Despite this, fans of the series have had the game topping the Steam charts.
Hogwarts Legacywill be released on February 10th for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. 72 hours early access is available for those who buy the deluxe edition. While PS4 and Xbox One players will need to wait until April 4th for those versions. The Switch version won’t be released until July 25th.
