Hogwarts Legacy Showcase Highlights Brooms, the Dark Arts, and the Room of Requirement
Hogwarts Legacy releases another gameplay showcase. This time, they focused on broom flying, a battle arena, and the massive Room of Requirement.
We just can’t wait to dive back into the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter! Good thing developer Avalanche Studios and publisher Warner Brothers haven’t forgotten about the fans and released yet another gameplay showcase.
It’s been almost a year now since thegameplay deep diveback in March. That update gave us info on the combat, abilities,Spells, and just some of the activities that we can partake in. We do also know that ourchoices and player agencywill have effects on the outcome of the story.
Now, let’s see what other goodies we can look forward to when Hogwarts Legacy gets its full launch!
We first take a look at the greater open world, outside the stuffy confines of the Hogwarts castle. To better showcase the scale and grandeur of the surrounding world, the developers showed off the broom flight mechanics.
Simply stepping outside of Hogwarts itself lets you mount your broom and speed off in whatever direction you wish. One of the destinations you can visit is Hogsmeade. There you can potentially meet interesting characters and even receive items and quests.
Next up is a new area entirely, theDark ArtsBattle Arena. This location is integrated seamlessly into the game, sitting in some hidden recesses of the Forbidden Forest.
Just like its namesake, the Battle Arena will feature wave-based fights that ramp up in terms of difficulty. It will be different from the standard arenas in the base game since you come with some pre-set abilities. In theme with the Dark Arts, witches and wizards will come equipped with Unforgivable Curses such as Avada Kedavra, Imperio, and Crucio. These kinds of curses will always break opponents’ shield charms.
Players will be placed in small areas with tons of enemies, traps, and other hazards. You will have a sufficient amount of throwables that you can fling at your targets for massive damage.
Unfortunately, the Dark Arts Battle Arena itself will be limited to Deluxe Edition Owners. The deluxe edition also includes some Dark Arts cosmetics to bring out your inner evil wizard. Standard Edition players can purchase the area separately.
The Room of Requirement is fully customizable towards the player’s “requirements”. It is intended to fully represent you as a wizard. Every detail can be changed in the Room of Requirement, from the design, objects, and even the architecture itself.
For example, the ceiling can be modified to include a skylight so that you can see the shining sun in your room. You can also make it so that it looks more like a botanical garden for the budding alchemist.
Add tables, chairs, and other workstations. You can fully change the colors of the objects, and even their size. Perfect for your house elves!
A nice touch that Hogwarts Legacy does is that the customization is done in real-time and in-engine. You are not loaded into some superficial menu to do your changes. The player character themselves uses their wand and simply wills things into existence, or changes their properties with the flick of the wrist. Animations used in changing objects are also quite entertaining to watch with a satisfying “zip” sound that resonates across the halls.
The Room of Requirement can also house various crafting stations for all your wizardly needs. You can store your Enchanted Loom for clothes, or even Potting Tables for your crying mandrake roots.
Inside the Room of Requirement is another magical chamber called the Vivarium. This is where beast care comes into play.
Players can befriend various creatures across their travels and house them in the Vivarium’s wide open space. These creatures can be cared for, fed, and played with.
If you take good enough care of these majestic creatures, they will reward you with some beastly crafting materials. Just like in the Room of Requirement, the Vivarium in Hogwarts Legacy can also be fully customized. Functional and cosmetic changes can be fully tweaked to your liking.
