Honkai: Star Rail Fire Trailblazer Build Guide
In thisHonkai Star Rail Fire Trailblazer Build Guidewe’re going to be covering the defensive supportFire TrailblazerBuild, who also doubles as fire a DPS, shield breaker, and Skill Points regenerator. This build focuses on playing multiple roles effectively in order to increase team offense and defense.
The Trailblazer is the main character in Honkai: Star Rail, and whether you choose male or female, there’s no difference. You start the game with a Physical Trailblazer by default, but by the end of first planet’s story you get the Fire version. Physical follows the Destruction path, while Fire follows the Preservation path. Switching between physical and fire is instant, but you have to invest in each version separately. In this guide we will focusing on the Preservation Trailblazer, and build it to its full potential.
At zero Eidolons, the Fire Trailblazer grants a team wide shield, has enchanted AOE normal attacks, and a taunt. In addition to that, they increase their own and their team’s damage resistance. And with Eidolons, they gain more damage based on their Def, proc their enchanted attack more often, and gain shield strength. So overall, Fire trailblazer is a very good unit for most of the game’s content.
Skill leveling Priority: Talent > Basic Attack > Ultimate > Skill.
There are two versions of Normal Attack, standard normal attack, and the enchanted version. Standard normal attack is like all other characters, hits a single enemy with standard damage modifiers. The Enchanted version hits a main target, and two enemies adjacent to it, and has greater break ability.
The Fire Trailblazer can trigger the Enchanted version once they get four or more “Magma Will” stacks. There are many ways to gain Magma Will stacks, so they trigger it more often than not. Both normal attacks and enchanted normal attacks generate a skill point to the team, so the Fire Trailblazer is a great unit to play as a SP positive character on any team.
The skill of the Fire Trailblazer is very simple and straightforward. It taunts all enemies for 1 turn, forcing them to attack the Trailblazer. In addition to that, it increases the Trailblazer’s damage resistance by a huge amount for the same one turn.
We don’t prioritize leveling the skill, because levels only increase the damage resistance bonus very slightly. The skill is situational, and usually used only once at the start of each enemy wave. The idea around it is neglecting enemies’ damage, by forcing them to attack the character that will take the least damage. And if you are using good Light Cones and Relics, they will hit a shield that can withstand beating.
Most dangerous enemies have similar attack patterns of doing moderate damage to a single target, then one big AOE damage. Taunt will force them to focus on Trailblazer, and if you have the Ascension 2 Trace, the Trailblazer’s skill will grant allies fixed damage resistance as well. So you can reduce the damage of AOE effectively, but that will use a skill point, so we only rely on it against really dangerous attacks.
Talents are the most important part of this Honkai: Star Rail Fire Trailblazer Build. It allows the Trailblazer to build stacks of “Magma Will” each time they use a normal attack, or skill. It enable senchanted normal attacks at the cost of 4 Magma Will stacks. On top of that, it grants the whole team a shield when the Trailblazer uses a normal, skill, or ultimate. The shield strength scales with Talent level, and the Trailblazer’s Def stat.
You can see why leveling this Talent is high priority in this build, and how it can make all the difference. They are Shielders, and shields get a huge flat shield strength bonus from talent level. This Talent encourages Fire Trailblazers to build with the Speed stat, to proc it more often. The shield on allies from the Talent is not enough to tank entire rounds of enemies’ attacks, so we need to refresh it constantly. We also build Def and use the “Knight of Purity Palace” Relic set to improve strength of this shield even further.
At cost of 120 Energy, the Fire Trailblazer nukes the entire field with AOE fire damage that scales with both Attack and Def. And after using this ultimate, they are guaranteed to use an enchanted attack without consuming Magma Will stacks. This Ultimate has good shield breaking capability, and enables an extra enchanted attack, which breaks shield even further. So overall, the ultimate is very potent against enemies weak to fire, and a good source of damage in general.
Traces are passive skills that characters unlock after leveling, and reaching certain Ascension levels. For this Honkai: Star Rail Fire Trailblazer Build, you need to farm and spend resources to unlock Traces, but they give a huge advantage to the Fire Trailblazer. Minor Traces have a lot of Def bonus, and major Traces add team damage resistance, healing, and energy generation.
This adds a team wide damage reduction to the skill, which lasts for 1 turn, similar to the taunt duration. It’s a decent way to reduce damage dealt to your team against enemies who charge their attacks. Some enemies use one turn to charge a very powerful attacks, then unleash it on the next turn. These are the ones that give you chance to react with the Trailblazer’s Skill. other than that, use normal attacks over the skill.
This is very powerful survivability buff, adding self-healing to enchanted normal attacks. If your Trailblazer is tanking most hits, their shield will never be able to negate all the damage they receive, so this trace helps mitigate some of the HP loss. It’s an important tool that plays a role in some niche teams that use no healer, against enemies with single target abilities. If enemies do massive AOE damage though, it can’t sustain an entire team.
This bonus is strong offensively, because it charges ultimate faster, increases damage, and breaks shields faster.
Fire Trailblazer gets ten minor stat increases, distributed as the following:
These are the most generic stats you can find on any character, with Def being the most useful. You get a total of 35% Def bonus from traces, which is equal to a maxed main stat on a Four Star Relic. It’s like having a whole additional relic, so make sure to grab them when you have the resources.
The Trailblazer is the main character of the game, and all their Eidolons are free. They have five star stats, with the additional benefit of getting Eidolons from the story and regional shops. You will get Eidolons for the Trailblazer a lot faster than all other Five Star characters, and even Four Star characters.
The 1st Eidolon adds more damage to normal attacks, and even more damage to enchanted normal attacks. This bonus scales with Def, making your Def stat double dip in offense and offense. Overall a very powerful bonus that enables the Fire Trailblazer their DPS role, without sacrificing defensive capability.
The 2nd Eidolon increases shield strength from your talent, and the 4th Eidolon allows the Fire Trailblazer to start with 4 Magma Will in combat. This enables the Fire Trailblazer to start with an Enchanted normal attack immediately at the first turn, increases AOE, shield breaking, damage, and healing.
The 6th Eidolon is a stacking Def bonus that goes up to 30% extra Def. The condition to get this bonus is using enchanted attacks, which is something the Fire Trailblazer does naturally. It improves overall performance of the the Fire Trailblazer, and takes them to a whole new level.
For this Honkai: Star Rail Fire Trailblazer Build, gear is a crucial part, and usually requires some testing with various teams and setups to get the highest performance. In this section, I’ll go through the recommended Light Cone for Trailblazer to fulfill their defensive support, DPS, and breaker roles.
Light Cones are similar to weapons in other games, and while you can equip any Light Cone on any character, only Cones matching the character’s Path can provide full benefits. Fire Trailblazer is of the “Perseverance” Path, which has Light Cones focusing on Def scaling, adding more shield, taunting, and minor heals. The Fire Trailblazer can benefit from all of these, so they have crazy variety of strong options to pick from.
Amber has the highest Def stat among three stars, and works as a perfect starting point for any Perseverance character. It has additional Def bonus on passive, and even more Def when HP drops beneath 50%. Overall an easy pick.
A guaranteed reward, and an easy purchase from the Forgotten Hall Store that you can get to max Superimpose tier. It has a decent Def stat, and gives all allies damage reduction, and restores some HP at the start of battle. The damage reduction buff last for 5 turns, so it’s not infinite, but still has a really high uptime.
It’s the standard upgrade over three star options. In double Perseverance teams, you will use it on one character, and use “Amber” on the other character, until you get an upgrade from gacha.
This Light Cone is an upgrade from “We Are Wildfire”, and you get it randomly from Warps. It has the same base Def as “We Are Wildfire”, but also has Def bonus on passive. Instead of increasing damage resistance of allies, it gives them Effect Res instead. This means they will be less likely to get any harmful debuff effects, like freeze, Imprisonment, or any DoT. The Effect Res is permanent, so it’s very potent, and the lost damage resistance is outweighed with better shields.
Overall, this is the best four star to use on Fire Trailblazer. I would use it on them at any time, unless you pull or buy a Five Star.
You can buy this Light Cone from Herta’s Store, using currency you earn from Simulated Universe. After finishing World 3, you can buy your first weapon. The weapon pool is limited to only three Paths, Perseverance, Hunt, and Destruction. So if you have better Light Cone for the Hunt, you can easily get the Light Cone for Perseverance.
“Texture of Memories” is the best option for a Fire Trailblazer with high base Def, and grants them a new shield. This shield is based on HP, which usually has higher strength than shields scaling with Def. If your Fire Trailblazer has an existing shield already, they get damage reduction instead of a new shield.
This is very effective Light Cone for survivability, as well as enabling the Ascension 6 Trace to proc, which results in more damage and energy generation.
In this Honkai: Star Rail Fire Trailblazer Build we’ll cover all four Relics slots: Head, Gloves, Body, and Feet. As well as the two accessories slots, Sphere and Rope. Head always comes with a Flat HP main stat, and Gloves comes with Flat Attack main stat. Then Body, Feet, Sphere, and Rope come with random stats. So gearing the Head and gloves will lean more towards finding the best sub stats, while other four have to also roll a good main stat.
For Fire Trailblazer, we prioritize the Set bonus of “Knight of Purity Palace”. So using four pieces of the set is a must, even before you have good main and sub stats. Then we focus on main stats as follows: Def on Body, Speed on Feet, Def on Sphere, and either energy generation or Break effect on Rope.
The sub stats we desire are always Speed and Def. Some extra Break Effect, Attack, and Crit rate are good, but not a priority. If you are using the “Texture of Memories” Light Cone, then HP will also become relevant.
The four pieces set bonus is a shield strength multiplier, that modifies the total shield strength by 20%. While the two pieces bonus is 15% Def increase. These bonuses are really impactful on shields that a Fire Trailblazer gives to themselves and entire team. I’d recommend farming this set over others early on, to get at least four pieces with proper main stats to get going. Survivability is huge factor in turn-based games like Honkai Star Rail, and this set plays a large role in that.
The two pieces accessories, Sphere and Rope have a unique conditional bonus. “Fleet of the Ageless” gives an attack buff to the entire team, if the wearer can reach 120 in their speed stat. The Fire trailblazer has 95 base Speed, so you need 25 Speed from gear to proc this bonus. You can get 25 Speed from main stat on five star Feet Relic, which solves this issue easily.
Otherwise, if you use a four star relic, it grants 16 Speed. In this case, you need an extra 9 Speed from sub stats. But either way, once you reach 120 Speed, your entire team gets a solid attack buff. On top of that, the set gives a permanent 12% Max HP.
Teams consists of four characters in Honkai Star Rail, where you usually seek to fill several roles, such as single target DPS, AOE DPS, shield breakers, and both defensive and offensive supports. The combat system prevents you from using one character to break all shields, since shields break only if you attack it with the elements it’s weak against. Therefore, the game still encourages players to build a very diverse team, with four different elements, or at the very least three elements.
In this section, I’ll go through some of the recommended team members for this Honkai: Star Rail Fire Trailblazer Build. Note that Fire trailblazer is a defensive support that double as shield breaker and sub dps. They have a lot of potential in all teams, and allow building a diverse team.
Due to the hybrid nature, in endgame content, Fire Trailblazer is not enough as sole defensive support. You either need another shielder or a healer to increase team survivability. And if you useYanqing, Trailblazer is not enough to prevent him from getting damaged and losing his buff. So the Fire Trailblazer still has some limitation.
The way Fire Trailblazer fills several roles, they can be paired with any dps. Whether you go with dps from the Hunt such asSeele, Destruction such as Clara orHook, or Erudition such as Himeko, Jing Yuan, orServal. A Fire Traiblazer works with all of these, and more.
I prefer using a Five Star main dps that’s good in single target and AOE suchSeeleor Clara. But not everyone has one of them, so other dps such as Sushang are viable as well, but just need little more investment and optimization.
Typically, you will useNatashahere, or Bailu if you are lucky to get her. However, The Fire Trailblazer’s survivability opens up a new possibility, which is another shielder. In some cases, you can survive everything with Gepard and Fire Trailblazer, without any healer.
In double Perseverance team,Gepardcan provide a good shield for the entire team with his ultimate, and the Fire Trailblazer provides damage reduction.Gepardcan use the Light Cone with highest Def, and Fire Trailblazer a Light Cone with a damage reduction buff. That way, they can compliment each other, reducing enemies damage by a lot. You can do the same withMarch 7th, but she will use a lot more SP than Gepard to keep the entire team shielded.
In standard teams with a healer, you buildNatashanormally, rely on her normal attacks to generate SP, and her ultimate to heal. Use either a Light Cone with Advance forward, or team energy generation. Also give her more Speed.
By debuffer, I mean characters who can apply debuffs on enemies, or remove buffs from them.Pelacan do both, that’s why she’s a very strong unit overall. What make even more meaningful with Fire Trailblazer is how she reduces enemies’ damage by removing their buffs. This reduces the pressure on a Fire Trailblazer’s shields, and allows the team to survive without using Fire Trailblazer’s skill often. In other words, Pela uses skill points herself to increase both, dps and survivability. So a Fire Trailblazer can save their skill, which only increases survivability, resulting in an overall team dps increase with very good survivability.
A five star option isWelt, who can deal AOE damage, and delay enemies’ turns.Weltcan play a defensive role in addition to his offensive role, thanks to his imaginary element which compliments the hybrid style of Fire Trailblazer.
Then there are the Harmony Path characters of course, all ofBronya,Asta, andTingyun. Among them, Asta shines brighter, since the Fire Trailblazer is a fire character that Asta can increase the damage of. If your main dps is also Fire, such as Hook or Himeko, then Asta becomes even better, because she buffs three characters, not only one.
Fire break is good, and Fire Trailblazer is excellent at doing so. However, there are better elements to deal the final blows to enemies’ shields, such as Physical, Imaginary, and Quantum. If you have a character with any of these elements, then save the final hit on toughness bars for them. The Fire Trailblazer has no way really to deal massive break damage from the final hit.
Fire trailblazer is a very good character for the Simulated Universe, with Perseverance Path Blessings. You need a lot of Speed though to keep generating shields after enemies destroy them. But pair this with Dots from the Nihility path, and you’ve got a very effective combo.
Finally, be patient with Fire trailblazer. They start with very small shields, but with investment, they can get a lot better. It also takes time to unlock all Traces and Eidolons, so they can get all necessary tools in their kit.
