Larian Studios Won’t Be Relaxing & Talks About Their New RPGs

Larian Studiosdoesn’t intend to slow down with their upcoming games and makes it clear that they will be very large adventures, although the scale they are handling hasn’t been fully specified yet.

Baldur’s Gate 3is a huge hit with CRPG fans, but Larian is not working on Baldur’s Gate 4. The studio has other RPGs in development that they claim will be equally enormous. This could mean a new Divinity game, after the success ofDivinity: Original SinandDivinity: Original Sin 2.

Now that the third numbered installment of the Baldur’s Gate saga has been out for a year, it seems that its developer has decided to move forward with another adventure, one that could also be large.

Developing two other role-playing games simultaneously seems like a titanic job, which is why some might think the company is exaggerating; but that’s not the case, far from it.

Swen Vincke told PC Gamer that “the machinery was created to make great games,” just as the first anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3’s release on PC was being celebrated.

We are made to create big and ambitious RPGs, as well as to try new things,” but it’s also worth noting that the developer has grown a lot over the years.

Larian Studios now has almost 500 employees, and the sales of BG3 would have given them a lot of money, so this – along with Vincke already having clear ideas about the games – makes the path forward very clear.

We really know what we want from our game systems, how to evolve them, how to create new things… and all of them are big

Although the appearance of these role-playing games is not yet known outside the studio, the developer recently met in Barcelona to discuss the “take-off” of the first one along with a vision of it.

Another implicit thing is that they could change genres; perhaps fantasy hasn’t tied them down: “Yes, of course,” Vincke said to the media earlier when asked if he was interested in trying another genre.

“There are many other things I’d like to try. So [few] things can be done,” he continued after these words about trying to delve into science fiction or similar genres.

The only thing that’s clear right now is that Larian Studios won’t be relaxing after Baldur’s Gate 3, and their new RPGs aspire to be just as enormous as this one.
