Latest Octopath Traveler 2 Trailer Introduces New Characters
A new trailer released for October Traveler 2 previews new characters the merchant and the scholar.
Two new characters were introduced in the new trailer for upcoming Octopath Traveler 2. The sequel to the title of the same name follows a new set of characters. In this particular trailer we meet the merchant Partitio and the scholar Osvald. These are two characters to be revealed for the upcoming turn-based game, with six more characters to be properly introduced.
Partitio looks to be a support character, as he casts magic to increase his group’s health. This character is quite light-hearted but also has life wisdom to impart. He can purchase items from the town’s people, which may include some useful items such as weapons. Another useful ability is his Path Action to hire people to join your journey which sounds like it will work similarly to howPrimrose in the first title could summon NPCs. Partitio’s Latent Power let’s a chosen character recover BP.
While Osvald on the other hand is a far more dramatic character, which is understandable once you learn his backstory. Accused of the murder of both his wife and daughter, he is sentenced to life in prison. Over time he gets to know the ins and outs of the prison, where he will plot his escape. Like Partitio, Osvald has the ability to gain items from the towns’ people, but in a far more violent way through mugging. In battle he can identify enemy weaknesses, which will be handy for plotting your next move. His Latent Power uses a spell to focus and cause more damage when targeting a single foe.
Octopath Traveler 2 features an all-new world of Solistia, with a brand new cast of characters. This means you don’t need to have played the first game to play the sequel. Square Enix seems to be keeping the second title in keeping with the prequel, which includes its HD-2D aesthetic. However, the second title is getting some improvements with more dynamic camera angles and more of an emphasis on the stories of each character. Even the individual stories behind each character will have more opportunities to intersect.
Battle systems will be similar to the first title, with turn-based battles and break mechanics. There could be some more mechanics to shake things up in this second entry. However traveling in the game is getting some new modes of transport such as using canoes and even boarding your own ship across seas. There are islands to be discovered and new enemies to challenge. This sounds much more dynamic than the previous title, opening up more ways to explore.
The title was revealed to be in development back in September, set to be coming to more platforms upon launch this time around. Previously Octopath was a Switch time-limited exclusive, but later released on more consoles.
