Emergence

Editor at Fextralife. I look for the substantial in gaming and I try to connect video games to the emotions and stories they elicit. I love all things culture and history and have an odd fondness for the planet Jupiter. I think my dogs are pretty awesome too.

It does start before ME1 (10 years to be precise) and it has nothing to do with the reapers since it the ark launches around the time of ME2.

Doesn’t mean they know about the Reapers. No one knew until they drop down on each of the planets. For all we know the project could have started before ME1 considering how long building all that massive technology would take.

Yes, but ME2 included the events of Arrival DLC, and saw the Bataarians destroyed; hence the imprisonment of Shepard at the start of ME3.

It’s often the problem with series that they bring out the big guns, put the universe at stake, and then after winning that battle everything is anti-climatic because the bar is set too high.

I think if the story is told well, and they succeed at making you care about the characters, they may be able to make you think specifically to a smaller scale of caring. That in itself would be a great achievement, so we’ll have to see how they approach it.

the real problem with this games lore/story is escalation. having a scouting mission get destroyed does not have the same stakes as the reaper attack. you can either undermine the original trilogy or exist in its shadow. either way its a bad time.

The launch of the Andromeda Initiative takes place before ME3, so the general populace does not know about the Reapers. I think they sent them to Andromeda for the same reasons we would colonize any other planet. Because we can.

However we don’t know what the actual story is so I don’t know what they’re complaining about.

Really? I rather like the idea that after the Galaxy learns of the Reapers and their plans for a Harvest, the races embark on a mission to find a new home; much like was proposed to the Quarians instead of them going to war against the Geth again. But this is how I see the events; may have them incorrect.

The gameplay looks very interesting so I might get ME:A just for the gameplay alone. The story/lore on the other hand is unsurprising horrid.

I’m slightly more hopeful after seeing this.

Not in my hands…

do you think the enhanced maneuverability will make shotguns op?

I’m surprised there’s this little talk about the mechanics. Anyone want to take some time to dissect it?

Here is something on the facial animations (ie; still polishing):http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/mass-effect-an… ed-1594697

I thought about the Witcher with the scanner haha. It could be intersting. It’s certainly a fun perspective to think they are taking inspiration from CDPR

the facial animations were terrible (probably not done) and it looks like they want to be batman with the scanner thing.

Game looks sick! Hype

It’s not the movement but the facial features, going off the one other female turian we have gotten to see from the Omega DLC in ME3, I find it safe to assume that the turian is female, especially compare to all the examples we have for male turians, the facial structure is entirely different. Here are images for comparison.

For comparison Nyreen Kandros, from Omega DLC in ME3:[img:3o7x3126]http://news.softpedia.com/images/news2/Female-Turian-from-Mass-Effect-3-Omega-DLC-Gets-First-Photos-2.png[/img:3o7x3126]

Both share a similar appearance in that compared to male Turians, including Garrus, their features are smoother and appear sleeker. Noticeable also is that male turians have the spikes on the top their head that go to the back where Nyreen Kandros and this new turian only have the one spike, with more prominent side face spikes going around the head. The features of the Andromeda turian match similar to Nyreen Kandros rather then that of any of the male turian we’ve seen in the ME series.

So unless Bioware comes out and states other wise, yes I believe it is safe to say that our new turian squadmate is female.

EDIT:

Once again compare them to Nyreen Kandros and then the turian shown in the new gameplay footage, same facial structure.

We should talk more about the combat. That shield looked great, but I’m really excited for the jet pack all of the sudden. It changes the dynamic and mechanics of the game a whole lot. I remember the “glue yourself to obviously placed crate” feeling and this looks like a glorious departure from it

Lots of info to dissect and add to wiki! Help me catalogue stuff pleasehttp://masseffectandromeda.wiki.fextral… omeda+Wiki

I’m personally quite interested in the dashes, it felt Bloodborne-esque which is a great addition to any shooter style game hehe.

Am still anxious that there may be another delay due to VA strike, or other issues. But what I see in the trailer looks good to me, esp the Pause functionality.

I’m going to assume that the female Turian is named Vetra. Some of those facial animations were a bit cringey.

Turian moves like a female….

Females turian squaddie?

So we can confirm a krogan and female turian for squad mates.
