Microsoft Clarifies That “Platform Limitations” Aren’t Behind Black Myth: Wukong’s Xbox Delay
Microsofthas spoken out and made it clear that there is no technical issue preventingGame Science’sgame from being on its console, hinting that there might be an agreement with PlayStation.
Black Myth: Wukong, released on August 20, is already one of the biggest hits of the year, having sold over 10 million units in just three days. This spectacular action RPG, developed by the Chinese studio Game Science, is available on PS5 and PC and will later be released on Xbox Series.
The reason why the Xbox version wasn’t ready for August has sparked a lot of controversy. The official explanation from Game Science was that they needed extra time to optimize the Xbox versions and reach the desired level of quality, which many interpreted as possibly having issues with the Xbox Series S version, similar to what happened with Baldur’s Gate 3. However, others believe that PlayStation may have paid to secure temporary exclusivity on PS5.
Now, Microsoft has spoken up, saying that “the delay is not due to the limitations of the Xbox platform,” implying that Black Myth: Wukong’s absence may indeed be due to some sort of agreement with PlayStation.
Forbes, which previously speculated thatBlack Myth: Wukong’sabsence on Xbox was due to some kind of agreement with PlayStation, contacted Microsoft and received the following statement:
“As we have said before, we are excited about the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We prefer not to comment on our partners’ agreements with other platforms, but we can confirm that the delay is not due to any Xbox platform limitations that have been communicated to us.”
In this way, Xbox makes it clear that the game’s absence from their platform is not due to any technical issue and further hints that there might be an agreement between Game Science and PlayStation, which could be the real reason why Black Myth Wukong is still not available on Xbox Series.
This statement from Microsoft comes after several games have not been released on Xbox but have been on PS5, leading to all sorts of speculation, like the strange reason whyEnotria: The Last Songwas delayed on Xbox Series.
Capcom announced that Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will finally come to Xbox One next year after initially only being announced for PS4, Switch, and PC.This seems to indicate that Microsoft is moving to address this situation, as these sometimes inexplicable absences harm the image of Xbox consoles.
