Microsoft Conference Gamescom 2015 Summary

Aug. 6, 2015

To start, MS announced Rare Replay, a collection of Rare classics releasing today. Quantum Break was then shown in gameplay form. The animation and shooting evokes Uncharted, but with time‐altering powers. The player distorts time to create shockwaves, slow enemies, initiate bullet‐time, and a series of other cool powers. At the end of the demo, two enemies appeared and began using time‐altering powers themselves. They seemed able to disrupt powers used on them as well.

Scalebound is an action RPG where you ride on, and command a giant dragon in combat while mowing down enemies with sword and bow. During a fight with a boss, the player character turned into a human‐sized dragon himself. Features loot and giant bosses. At the end of the gameplay trailer, 4‐player co‐op was teased for raid style bosses.

MS announced that XBOX One will be backward‐compatible with all future XBOX 360 games featuring a Gold title, starting in November.

Killer Instinct was mentioned to be compatible with Windows 10. MS claimed this will apply to most LIVE games. Windows 10 features built‐in game capture, as well as both cross‐play and cross‐buy with XBOX One.

Bloodstained is a sidescrolling action‐RPG featuring loot and multiple playable characters. The character shown is a male demon hunter who fights with dual swords and magic. No gameplay shown, but if it’s anything like Atlus’ sidescrollers, it’s bound to be cool.

More than 150 indie games, including Cities: Skylines, Train Simulator, several titles from studio Daedalic Entertaiment, Beyond Eyes, Escapist: Walking Dead, Ukelele, and Worms WMD. Indie ports include Sheltered, ARC: Survival, and Starbound.

Another kickstarter game, Tumbleweed Park, is a point‐and‐click adventure game with a pixelated art style. Way to keep the genre alive, Telltale.

Next, a very creepy game from Compulsion Games was shown, called We Happy Few. In first‐person, the player explores a creepy town overrun with smiling masked psychos, while a cheery LittleBig Planet‐esque narrator recited a rewrite of the lullaby “My Fair Lady”.

An in‐engine tech demo was shown for DirectX 12. For those interested, good lord. The camera was manipulated, showing it was indeed captured in real‐time. The scenery changed from asphalt to snow‐covered asphalt in the blink of an eye. Gotta love hair tesselation.

Mojang’s account system will be used across both PC and XBOX One versions of Minecraft. Mojang announced an XBOX One exclusive called Cobalt, a sidescrolling stick shooter with powerups and powers. Looks hectic.

HOLY CRAP. DARK. SOULS. III. Finally, we get to see actual in‐game footage. Speed nearing that of Bloodborne. Beautiful environments. Huge bosses that move with startling quickness. Why am I telling you this,GO WATCH IT YOURSELF.

A trailer was shown for Homefront: Revolution, wherein a child delivers a powerful speech to a montage of citizens commit acts of violent rebellion against soldiers. Play as a guerrilla soldier and liberate an occupied America in an open‐world FPS. Create parties and take on the world with friends. After the trailer, gameplay was shown. Ridable motorcyles, always a plus. Lots of jump opportunities, and flying dismount to instantly enter combat. Clear enemies from bases to bring the area under your control.

A CTF match in Halo 5: Guardians was shown. Grabbing ledges makes the game seem much faster. Available for preorder starting tomorrow. A Halo World Championship was announced with a cash prize of one mil.

A brief gameplay montage for Just Cause 3 was shown.

Forza 6. Twice the cars, and PBR three‐dimensional puddles. Ruin every pedestrian’s day.

The Industrial Complex map was displayed for R6: Siege.

Tomb Raider: Rise of the Tomb Raider lets you‐‐GASP‐‐actually raid tombs. Still not sure if it’s open world. Here’s hoping. In the gameplay sequence, Lara eliminated enemies from an area to establish a base camp. She marked two stationary unaware enemies, each with a lock‐on that required the reticule to be focused on the enemy, then fired multiple arrows to kill both at once. Looks like it will be hard to use in combat, difficult to exploit. Good. You can also climb trees and perch on branches, Assassin’s Creed‐style.

BlitzKeir

A Prinny who plays SRPGs unironically.

So… wiki? xD

Nice summarization Blitz. I’m pretty excited for Bloodstained, those kinds of games are a refreshing change from the open world, sandbox types that we are all getting used to being the norm.
